Project IGI2 announced [20:36:47 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Wow, out of the blue comes word that Innerloop is working on a sequel to last year's I'm Going In, and have jumped ship from Eidos to Codemasters. Computer & Video Games has posted an interview with Innerloop's managing director Henning Rokling, where they discuss the project.

IGI2 interview

The article includes 5 screenshots as well. Here's some of the dirt:
Project IGI 2 is going to feature multiplayer modes! One of the biggest criticisms aimed at the original game was that it lacked a multiplayer mode. When it failed to materialise in the retail release, fans gagging for a bit of online action were placated when they heard of Innerloop's plan to release a patch at a later date which would include multiplayer functionality. Unfortunately this never arrived. Innerloop is now addressing this issue for the sequel, and at the moment we can confirm that there will be team-based multiplayer in there... [more]
So finally, the game will get a multiplayer component. I had a lot of fun with the first one, even tho is was a bit frustrating in places, I still played thru it twice. Expected release date for IGI2 is Q2 2002...

Ghost Recon news [20:03:24 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Lots happening in the world of Ghost Recon, so I'll just sum up...
bulletThe official Ghost Recon site has an updated FAQ online to check out, plus 3 new screenshots, one especially for Halloween.
bulletGameShrimp has posted a Ghost Recon gameplay movie (Windows Media Format, 32 MB) with commentary (in Flemmish) as they play. (Thanks Blue's News)
bulletAnd lastly, there's a new Ghost Recon preview at GamesDomain, based on some hands on with the beta.

Ghost Recon preview

Here's a bit on the missions:
The missions are extremely varied in their scope. Although the emphasis is on outdoor missions, there's a good few urban encounters, including a magnificent grand finale in Red Square itself. Your tactics will need massive adjustment between the different scenarios, and intelligent squad selection is the name of the game. There's little point in having a sniper covered in bits of grass if you're wandering through an urban metropolis.
New screenshots are included too.

Deadly Dozen interview [4:38:07 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Forsaking sleep in order to get this online, I have posted an interview with 3 core members of the nFusion development team, where we discuss their upcoming WWII tactical shooter, Deadly Dozen.

Deadly Dozen interview

Here's a little sample to start you off:
10. Does the game have 'atmospherics' in it? (rain, snow, lightning, etc?)

Jason: Our environments are dripping with gooey atmosphere. Our technology is geared towards making you feel like you are there. So we have rain, snow, some really incredible clouds, great lighting, swaying grass, and all sorts of other cool effects.
The answers are pretty in-depth, chock full of info on the game, so do check it out. I have to say that this game looks soooo much better than the usual crop of 20 dollar games released, so you probably can't go wrong by picking it up. With enough support, maybe we'll see Deadly Dozen 2, with MP this time!!

Deadly Dozen news [1:38:27 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Developer nFusion has opened up their forums for discussion of their game, Deadly Dozen.

Browsing the forums, I learned that the developer is done with the game and the demo. The demo could be released as early as Monday (today!), and the game should be in stores on November 6th, but everything is subject to publisher Infogrames.

This is just the game to hold us over till MoH ships early next year.

Ghost Recon info/ shots [18:38:56 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC Zone UK has put up some info and shots of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon.

GR preview

Here's some of the goods:
One of Ghost Recon's other beauties is its squad control method. You can now order your units around in real-time by simply bringing up a map of the playing area, selecting your squad, and then clicking on an area of the map that you want them to move to. You can also jump into the shoes of any soldier in your team by bringing up your squad list at the press of a key and then selecting a member of your unit with the left mouse button. It's nice and simple and extremely effective.
Check out the shots at the end; great stuff.

Red Hammer website opens [2:22:16 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Missed this yesterday, but Codemasters has opened the official Red Hammer: The Soviet Campaign website.

Red Hammer website

There you can find all you need to know on this expansion pack that lets you play OFP from the Soviet side. Here's a clip from the story:
Take up the rifle of Dmitri Lukin, ex-Spetsnaz, busted to grunt for a stupid mistake. Using all your specialist skills and years of experience, stay alive long enough to redeem yourself in the sight of the USSR.
Lots of great screenshots can be found on the new site as well. Check it out!

Ghost Recon chat log/ preview [23:49:33 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Ice Gameware has posted an edited chat log from today's developer chat with Redstorm regarding thier upcoming outdoor shooter, Ghost Recon. Here's a clip:
Q: Will stealth play a big part in terms of gameplay in GR?

A: Stealth is a very vital component to several missions. As always, it is easier to defeat the enemy force if they do not know where you are shooting from. As a result, everyone has the capability to carry a silenced firearm. Also, one of the dedicated skills is stealth to help you sneak up on any enemies that you see first. Your stance and movement speed have a big impact on how far away you can be before and enemy spots you. Crawling prone into a good combat spot is a great tactic in the single player and coop missions.
In other GR news, pc.ign has posted a preview of the game, mostly dealing with the multiplayer aspect of the game.

GR preview

Here's a clip for you:
And the level of detail on everything is incredibly high. While many people thought the foliage in Operation Flashpoint was hot, the trees and bushes and grass effects in Ghost Recon are much more believable. It's a shame that you can't tell just from the screenshots but the way the trees sway in the wind adds a whole new level of credibility to the environments. The buildings, water and sky effects also add a touch of realism.
Several new (and old) screenshots are included.

OFP review [22:17:57 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Avault has kickup up a very favorable review of Bohemia Interactive/ and Codemasters' Operation Flashpoint, and gave it a "Seal of Excellence" award to boot. Here's the game in a nutshell:
Bohemia's newest release has bits and pieces of every first-person war simulation to date. You begin as a common infantryman in the modern army, following orders in a small platoon as you traverse hostile territory resembling the Balkan region. Later on, you play the role as a tank commander, controlling all aspects of the powerful M1 Abrams in battle. As the campaign progresses, you even get to hop in an attack helicopter, bringing the fight to the air. There are many other duties players take on throughout the campaign such as mine-laying, special operations, assassination, hostage rescue, and machine gunnery. Operation Flashpoint also lets you commandeer any vehicle you happen upon during the conflict, so you may find yourself behind the wheel of a tractor, a Humvee, or even an Eastern European Trabbi.
Great stuff, def don't miss this one..

Codename Outbreak FAQ [21:46:00 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The official Codename: Outbreak website has updated their F.A.Q. section. Head on over if you have any troubles with the game.

The updated U.S. version should hit on November 6th, so look for it then.

SWAT3 interview [21:10:57 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys from TacticalGames have posted an interview with SWAT3 level designer Travis S., who created the "Civil Unrest" map. Here's a snip to start you off:
What do you think of the SWAT 3 community and what is the general image of the SWAT 3 community within Sierra?

I think the community accurately represents a terrific game. Everyone seems dedicated to making SWAT 3 enjoyable for the longest amount of time possible and they hold the game to a very high level. However, I think because the fans are so dedicated to the game, they tend to be very critical of any bugs or things that are not perfect within the game. Sierra loves the SWAT 3 community; after all, it’s the fans that allow for the great products coming. Lastly, I think the community needs to slow down and let my levels’ Easter eggs last a little longer!
Check out the rest..

Ghost Recon movies [4:32:45 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys from GhostRecon.nl sent word that they've posted not one, but two new Ghost Recon movies featuring "Characters" (Karakters) and "Special Effects and Vehicles" (Speciale effecten en voertuigen)... Hi-res movies are ~38 MB in size, and the lo-res versions are 15 MB. If ya wanna see what the game looks like before ya get it, def DL these movies!

Chrome announced [0:43:49 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Always on the lookout for new games in our genre, I saw via Blue's News that Chrome has been announced by Polish developer Techland. It's another scf-fi, tactical, 1st and 3rd-person shooter.

Chrom screenshots
Click for 9 new screenshots

Here's some of the goods:
Taking the role of mercenary Logan, the player is armed with a massive arsenal including knives, pistols, sniper rifles, machine guns, plasma rifles, flame throwers and rocket launchers. Our hero is also given Implants, which can improve character's parameters (like accuracy, health, or speed), and Equipment, which includes flashlights, radar, sonar, med-kits, drugs (stimulators), various explosives & grenades, and other non-firing weapons, which can be used during missions.
The game kinda reminds me of a cross between IGI and Codename: Outbreak. Release is set for spring 2002. We'll see how tactical it is as news develops..

C&C: Renegade interview [0:18:31 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

R6: Black Thorn interview [4:56:33 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
HomeLan Fed has posted an interview with Patrick Naud, associate producer of RSE's Black Thorn, the budget priced, stand-alone expansion pack to Rogue Spear. Three new screenshots are included.

R6: BT interview

Here's a bit on the background story of the game:
HomeLAN - What can you tell us about the single player missions of Black Thorn? Is there an overall story arc to the game?

Patrick Naud - Team Rainbow will be faced with what seems to be recreation of historical terrorist acts but further along the campaign, we’ll discover who is the mastermind behind all these re-enactments and his motivation for recreating all of this.
In response to the September 11th terrorist attacks, they've cut one mission, leaving only 9 new missions.. Sigh.. The game is due November 1st.

MoH shots [4:24:20 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

Ghost Recon shots/ info [4:07:34 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
In other Ghost Recon news, 2 sets of new GR shots have hit the net.

First up, Gamespot has posted 11 new screenshots (6 of which are menu shots tho) and some background info on the game, which includes info on some of the characters in the game, with more promised later.

GR shots/ info

Here's a snip:
Like the previous games in the Tom Clancy series, Ghost Recon focuses on modern-day squad-based tactics, but it features large open environments in addition to smaller interior areas. It also features improved animation and graphics, along with a number of new gameplay features such as character development and the ability to take control of any of the characters on the squad.
Next up, Prophecy has posted 20 hi-res shots from the PC beta of the game.

more GR shots

Real sweet..

Thanks again, Blue's News.

Codename Outbreak US date [3:40:26 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
As promised, we now have word on the U.S. release date of Codename: Outbreak, the 2-man, near future, tactical shooter from GSC Gameworld that should hit stores on November 6th.

Good news is that the rather comical Russian-accented voiceovers will be redone with American voice actors. The game is slated to retail for only 20 bucks too, which is a great deal. Thanks HomeLAN Federation.

Call Sign Charlie interview/ shots [3:12:57 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Also from Blue's I see a new interview with Outsider Development, regarding their Vietnam shooter, Call Sign: Charlie, which hopes to recreate the mood of Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

Call Sign Charlie interview

Here's some of the goods:
The "switch to any character" feature seems to be similar to the Rainbow Six games. Do you plan to build missions that *require* you to switch between characters, or would it be possible to just play using one character?

Sometimes you’ll be required to use a character’s special ability, but the possibility of switching to an arbitrary soldier was implemented mainly for getting different game experiences for each character.
Good read; check out the rest..

[Update]: in other CSC news, GamePlex has posted 3 new screenshots to check out. Gotta admit, the game engine does look pretty snazzy.

MoH video [3:01:52 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Blue's News clued me in to a new video over at Computer & Video Games, showing off more action from Medal of Honor, mission 5, level 3, but damned if I can view it without registering. I just can't be bothered. So much for the free (or at least hassle-free) exchange of information and ideas..

Ghost Recon GOLD! [2:55:04 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Word from UbiSoft is that Redstorm's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon has gone gold and should be in stores by November 13th. Here's the PR:
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 23 2001: Ubi Soft Entertainment is delighted to announce that the title Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon has reached Gold Master Status.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon has been developed by Red Storm Entertainment, the studio behind the multi-award winning 'Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six' franchise.

Set in the year 2008, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is a squad based tactical combat game that follows the exploits of a fictional US Special Forces team. Russia has fallen under the control of ultra-nationalistic leaders intent on rebuilding the Iron Curtain. This leads to conflict with NATO as Russia attempts to reclaim the breakaway republic of Georgia, and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. As the war escalates, casualties mount, hostages are taken and the Ghosts are sent in.

The player takes command of the Ghosts through a series of missions that range from demolitions, to search and rescue, to all-out firefights for survival.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon ships on PC CD ROM on November 13th 2001. MSRP $49.99
As I'm all about outdoor military shooters, I'll be all over this one, and Redstorm usually doesn't disappoint (*cough* except for Covert Ops *cough*).. Can't wait!

Battlefield 1942 preview [2:48:38 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Computer and Video Games has posted a preview of Digital Illusion CE's upcoming WWII 3D shooter, Battlefield: 1942 along with some new screenshots. Here's a clip on how the missions play out:
You get your mission briefing at the start of each level and can choose to stick with the AI soldiers, heading for the same control points as they do. These will always be interesting areas that have to be taken out. Or you can choose to go your own way, even though you don't know what you'll stumble upon. It could be a minefield or another machine gun in the bushes."
Seems like registration is required to view page 2 of the preview or the screenshots tho..

The shots are from mission #6, which is a recreation of an event that occured in 1977 in Holland where Molukian People hi-jacked a train, taking hostages. It's your job to rescue them!

OFP review [12:37:44 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameGenie has posted an Operation Flashpoint review chock full of humor for your lazy Sunday afternoon reading, and where it scores a solid 5 out of 5. Here's how they describe the game's AI:
Everything in Operation Flashpoint is so thorough it’s amazing, and this extends (most of the time) to the AI. The AI can be set from “target practice” to “retry the level” (not really, but you get the idea). The AI will, on occasion, pick you off with ease. And it’s hard to get away from the crossfire, since the damage modeling is accurate in nature, meaning one or two shots and you are watching a death cut scene. It’s a tense situation, as there are many ways of dying (including getting run over by a tank: don’t ask). All told, Operation Flashpoint delivers the goods in the most realistic war action shooter present in our gaming realm in quite a while.

H&D2 interview [19:38:07 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Lickshot from H&D Fanatic sent word he's posted an interview with Illusion Softworks' Petr Vochozka, complete with 3 new screenshots.

HD2 interview

Here's some of the new features we can expect:
* controls are now more intuitive, we use the roll bar, you simply point to an object and a list of actions you can perform is displayed.

* story - there is a great background story in the game, everything you do makes sense

* graphics - very much improved - shadow maps, realtime shadows, single mesh characters, more than 150.000 faces per mission. Anyway, its better to look at the screenshots attached

* animations - we bought our own motion capture studio, so we can recapture any movement we are not satisfied with whenever we want, for no extra cost

* engine is totally new, we use the same engine for Mafia and other games within Illusion Softworks. It’s being developed by four extra people and it’s tweaked to a maximum. We don´t know about any other engine which is so good for both indoor and outdoor, and runs also on Playstation2 and will run on X-Box

* code - there are 5 programmers working on the game (apart from engine programmers - they are extra) and they have enough time to polish their code. As for the AI, one person is doing just the AI full-time

* music is now composed by Czech musicians and played by a live orchestra
Yup, this title is gonna kick ass.. Def check out the rest of the interview.

Another OFP review [16:54:33 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
There's a review of Bohemia Interactive's Operation Flashpoint over at BurnOutPc. Here's something to start you off:
So if you wanted to be cruel you would stick this game in a similar category to the likes of 'Delta Force' and 'Rainbow Six', but being fair to OPF even it is not THAT similar to those games. For OPF happily sits in the middle of the two genres, taking the best features of each, and losing some of their more unattractive qualities in the process. And to be honest, it pulls it off nicely!
They score it at 91% overall and there are lots of great screenshots to go along with the article. Head on over..

Op Flash review [7:12:47 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GamePen has posted a review of Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis, where it scores 4 out of 5 stars.

OFP review

Here's what they thought of the gameplay:
As fun as the game is, it is devilishly hard. The computer AI is mixed, but generally very intelligent. AI troops will attempt to flank your position, hide and even call in reinforcements to get rid of you; I can?t count the number of times I was picked off by some Russian super shot! As the game tries to recreate an accurate depiction of war, it?s only going to take one or two shots to kill you.

Codename Outbreak review [6:18:26 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
LoadedInc has posted a nice review of GSC Gameworld's Codename: Outbreak, the near-future, Sci-Fi squad shooter recently released in the U.K., and due for U.S. release any day now.

Codename Outbreak review

Here's a bit on the importance of stealth:
The best approach for this game is stealth, enemy react to noises and commotion, the lower your profile the higher the chance of succeeding. This is not a game where you try and clear the level of enemies, be a coward, run and hide until the coast is clear. You’re best buddy is the zoom function on the weapons, spotting and listening out for enemies while crouching in a river or behind a bush will give you the upper hand, especially with the sniper rifle primed and ready for action.
Nice screenshots go along with the article too. Check it out..

Call Sign Charlie shots [6:01:07 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Blue's News pointed me in the direction of 5 new shots (shots 22 - 26) from Outsider Development's Call Sign: Charlie, the far-off tactical shooter set in the Vietnam era.

R6: Black Thorn demo [18:51:14 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
In other Redstorm/ UbiSoft news, there's a demo (90 MB) of Rogue Spear: Black Thorn online for the picking. Here's the rip:
The demo includes:
- full multiplayer functionality including the new Lone Wolf multiplayer mode
- one new map
- New weapons including the P90, in suppressed and unsuppressed versions

Be sure to look for Black Thorn’s 9 new single player maps, 6 new multiplayer maps and 14 new weapons on store shelves on November 1!
Too many demos, too little time..

Ghost Recon galore! [18:30:29 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
