Deadly Dozen 2 demo [17:20:11 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpy is now hosting the Deadly Dozen 2 demo! The demo weighs in at 170 MB, and includes the tutorial, plus 1 single player mission, and 1 multi player map, playable in DM, co-op(yeah baby!), CTF, and mission based (attackers vs. defenders).

DD2 demo

Here's the 411:
The year is 1942 and the war against Japan is at a fever pitch.

The key to victory hinges on the defeat of island strongholds throughout the Pacific. To do this the U.S. army deploys specially trained soldiers to carryout commando-style attacks against the forces of Japan. From sweltering rainforests to sun-baked coral beaches and stinking mangrove swamps, players lead their squad of 12 skilled heroes on real missions with real consequences. Coordinate attacks, sneak into enemy villages, rescue captured POWs and more. Missions can be played single-handedly or jointly with friends over the Internet for cooperative play. It's the authentic hard-edged intensity of the Pacific Theater.
Mirrors as we get them...

Deadly Dozen 2 trailer [1:06:41 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpy is hosting the Deadly Dozen 2: Pacific Theater trailer, which clocks in at 33 MB.

Here's the rip:
This movie of the sequel to the first/third-person tactical title shows some great in-game footage. Intense single and multiplayer gameplay on foot and in vehicles.
I beta tested this title, and have to say that it's a great game. All of the previous issues from DD1 have been fixed (eagle-eye AI, no MP, couldn't go prone), and the game looks and plays really nice. MP co-op feels like SP, and it's tremendous fun all around. The missions are fun, the terrain is great, and there are vehicles to drive. Plus it's a squad-based tactical WWII shooter that takes place in the outdoors; what more could ya want!

If you bought DD1 last time, there's more fun around this time, and if you skipped it, worried because it was a budget title, you owe it to yourself to get DD2 this time. You won't be disappointed.

The game will be on store shelves the first week in November. If you're a fan of this site, DD2 is a must buy...

[Update]: I have a local mirror up now. Enjoy. Gotta say, the trailer rocks and shows off a lot of what you can expect from the game.

James Bond 007: Nightfire demo [21:13:40 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
WorthPlaying.com has the new demo for James Bond 007: Nightfire. In a day when so many titles are being pushed back, it is nice to get something early.

R6: Raven Shield shots [19:51:59 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
UbiSoft's official Rainbow Six: Raven Shield website has been updated with a whole bunch of new screenshots over the past few days, and I gotta admit, they're looking pretty 'hardcore'.

R6:RS website

Also, grab the new Raven Shield trailer, which shows off some pretty impressive footage of the game in action.

STALKER preview [19:31:57 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Also from GameSpot is a 'first look' at S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Oblivion Lost, the futuristic military shooter coming from GSC Gameworld.

STALKER 'first look'

Here's a snip:
A number of vehicles will also be featured in the game and, although it's not been revealed which of these will be available for players to control, we know that military APCs and attack helicopters will be present along with civilian cars and trucks long-forgotten after being abandoned in the Zone years earlier.
Not much new info, but damn the screenshots look sweet.

Conflict Desert Storm review [19:23:09 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpot has posted a review of Pivotal Games' Gulf War shooter, Conflict: Desert Storm, and slapped it with a 4.8 'poor' rating.

CDS review

Here's some of the grief:
Everything about Desert Storm's gameplay is really, really clunky. The soldiers move in a very jerky way, and the mouse-based aiming control is never as smooth as you need it to be to make accurate shots. The interface used to order your other troops around is weird and unintuitive.
Ah, I was hoping for good things from this title, but it wasn't meant to be.

BHD shots [19:11:50 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Yes, by now we've all heard that NovaLogic's Delta Force: Blackhawk Down will be delayed to Q1 2003 (there goes another one!!), but to soften the blow, WorthPlaying has posted 23 new shots of the game in action.

DF:BHD shots

Hmm, dunno tho, these shots don't look that great at all. The textures seem pretty lo-res, and what's up with the color palette?

Deadly Dozen 2 interview/shots [9:06:02 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I've posted my interview with nFusion Interactive 's Jason Zisk, where we discuss all things about Deadly Dozen 2: Pacific Theater, their squad-based tactical WWII shooter. The article also includes 4 exclusive screenshots from the game in action.

DD2 interview by Rush

Here's one of the Q & A's:
What's new for Deadly Dozen 2? Any new weaps/items?

nFusion:
The biggest addition to DD2 is multiplayer. Free for all (FFA) or team-based Deathmatch, Cooperative mode so you can play the single player game with your friends, as well as a few other game modes to keep things interesting. We went all out with the multiplayer component. There are tons of options so you can play pretty much any game type you can imagine.

Because of the move to the Pacific Theater that means we have a whole new set of weapons for the Japanese, plus we added a bunch of weapons on the US side such as the Flamethrower (fry your friends!), the oft-requested BAR, the M1 Carbine, and who doesn't love getting kills with a Samurai Sword. The most exciting new inventory item is the ammo belt, for the cost of one inventory slot you can get a few extra magazines for all your weapons. I don't think I've seen something like that in too many games.
The game has recently gone gold, and should be in stores the last week of October. A demo of the game (which will feature both SP and MP action) will be released shortly. Stay tuned for more DD2 goodies as well..

GR: Island Thunder review [2:54:54 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpy has posted a review of Redstorm and UbiSoft's expansion pack to Ghost Recon, Island Thunder, where it scores a 74% 'good' rating overall. Here's how they kick it off:
Red Storm takes a, shall we say, conservative approach to expansion packs. With Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, and now Ghost Recon, their tendency is to release a handful of map packs with small incremental upgrades. Maybe you'll get some new weapons, some single-player content and an extra game mode or two, but you get the sense they're holding something back for the next installment. So it's no surprise that shortly after Ghost Recon's Desert Siege mission pack comes the Island Thunder mission pack.
'Nuff said.

STALKER website live [2:47:51 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw via Blue's News that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Oblivion Lost website has gone live, chock full of goodies on the game.

STALKER website

This one may not be all that tactical, but does include military weapons, and the screenshots look really sweet!

DF:BHD interview [15:56:49 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys at EuroGamer have posted an interview with NovaLogic's Wes Eckhart where they discuss Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. Here's a bit on how the game will unfold:
We’ve heard that the game is split into five campaigns - one directly based on the harrowing events seen in Scott's war epic. Why did you opt for this approach instead of just concentrating on the familiar aspects of the conflict?

Actually, the game is set up as one continuous campaign, with two major elements. The player starts out as a member of the US 10th Mountain Division. In this capacity, the player is tasked with safeguarding UN relief efforts. As the game evolves, the player becomes a member of Task Force Ranger, and as part of the Task Force, the player is sent on missions to capture Aidid's top people and eliminate the threat of the Habr Gedir militia.
Good stuff; check out the rest!

Vietcong slips [17:47:04 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw over at the unofficial H&D2 page that Take 2's release date for Vietcong is now Q1 2003. I kinda had a feeling this one would never make it this year. So now we have four tactical shooters set for Q1 of next year. I hope they spread the releases out a bit..

GR: Island Thunder review [3:03:08 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Missed this on Friday, but GamersClick has posted a review of Redstorm & UbiSoft's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder where they slap it with a 68% and a 'fair' rating. Sure, the game plays nice enough, but ya have to admit, the ex-pack is a bit thin on content. Def worth the read..

MoH: Spearhead media madness [14:41:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The official Medal of Honor website went a bit nuts and posted a whole bunch of media for the game. They've posted 8 new gameplay movies and 35 new screenshots for your viewing enjoyment. Very cool stuff indeed!

SWAT: UJ preview [13:49:00 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys over at Tactical Community sent word they've posted an interview with SWAT: Urban Justice Producer Daryl Nichols. The interview covers a lot of personal background on Darly himself, plus some on the game itself. Check it out..

IGI 2 delayed [20:26:55 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Welp, I guess we could see this coming, but Project IGI 2: Covert Strike has been pushed back to February 2003 according to a post on the IGI2 forums. I still find it funny that all these games (SWAT UJ, R6 3) that were slated for the same month in 2002, will now be pushed back to the same month in 2003 (Feb)!

STALKER interview [21:10:44 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The folks at GameWatchers have posted an interview with GSC Gameworld's Oleg Javorsky, where they dicsuss STALKER: Oblivion Lost, the followup to last year's sci-fi based military shooter, Codename: Outbreak. Here's a bit on the damage modeling:
GWN: Do you have damage specific models (i.e. headshots, legshots?) and will the player or character be affected by wounds other than just having less life?

GSC:
Yes, the heaviness of damage will vary depending on the body part you hit. Characters have skeleton animation, where the bones have ties and reaction to bullet hits will be appropriate. This also means we do not implement a ready-made death animation for characters, as they will die differently each time. Dying on a stairway, for example, character will not hold against the stairs with his ear, but will crawl down (similar features have been implemented in Unreal2003).
Some nice screenshots from the game can be seen as well. (Damn those first three shots look eerie..)

OFP: R patch [21:00:06 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

Vietcong character update [21:28:42 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The Vietcong website has updated their characters section with a profile for game character Sergeant Le Duy Nhut.

Vietcong character profile

Here's some of the intel:
Le Duy Nhut is very introverted and ideological in nature. He truly believes in the cause for which he fights, and has an intense hatred for the enemy. His personal history with the Vietcong, along with his combat experience, made Nhut a logical choice to assist the U.S. Special Forces.

His knowledge of the terrain and ability to speak many languages are an invaluable asset to the A-216 team, 5th Special Forces Group.
A few good screenshots are included as well.

BF: 1942 review [4:10:49 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
There have been just too many BF:1942 reviews to keep up with lately, but I see that Avault has posted a review of their own, where it scores a 4 / 5 stars overall. Notably tho, it got only 2 / 5 stars for the gameplay category (tho a 4 / 5 in multiplayer). Here's how they sum it up:
Despite the laundry list of bugs and the steep hardware requirements, Battlefield 1942 remains as engrossing an online experience as they come, with great graphics and explosive gameplay - providing one has a solid Internet connection. While there are currently numerous other opportunities for multiplayer action with a W.W.II theme, from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, none do it quite so well or purposefully, as they all remain committed to the single-player experience. What Battlefield 1942 does, however, is expand upon the niche genre of team-based play, which was previously dominated by Tribes 2. While not necessarily a better game than its more futuristic counterpart, the W.W.II theme and slower pace make it much more approachable to the average player, moving the genre from niche to mainstream.

DD2 interview [1:46:18 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
InGaming has posted an interview with nFusion Interactive's Jason Zisk about their upcoming WWII shooter, Deadly Dozen 2: Pacific Theater. Included are 6 new screenshots. Here's a clip:
InGaming: Following on from that, what will separate Pacific Theatre from other games it's closely related to in it's genre? What's it's edge?

Jason Zisk: The main edge is that it's set in the Pacific Theatre. There really haven't been many Pacific Theatre games, so it should be new and interesting territory for a lot of people. The open-ended nature of the Deadly Dozen series is also a major difference. Deadly Dozen is all about putting the player's squad into a situation and letting him figure out what to do from there, rather than leading the player along a pre-defined path.
I should have my own DD2 interview coming up shortly as well, so stay tuned.

NOLF 2 Review [8:41:01 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
GameSpy has posted their review of No One Lives Forever: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way. Looks like the return of "Date Night", to me. ;) Sorry to hear that Cate Archer's voice has changed, along with her face, though. The last chick had spunk.

Hitman 2 Demo [8:34:50 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
The Hitman 2 Demo is available for download. I had problems with textures on the first demo and don't have much hard drive space left (thanks to WinME's stupid "system restore" feature, which has gobbled up about 5 Gigs and refuses to be disabled), so I'm going to pass.

GameSpy NOLF2 Preview [20:59:58 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
GameSpy has previewed No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in HARM's Way. NOLF1 was one of the best PC Games I've ever played, and this one seems to promise even greater greatness. With the original, not only was I so hooked that I actually finished the campaign (I had to cheat on one of the stealth levels), something I rarely do, but the campaign was so long that I twice thought that I was near the end of the game. Playing NOLF felt like coming home from work to my uber-wife.
