*Men of Valor: Vietnam released

Rather quietly, Vivendi Universal has released Men of Valor: Vietnam. Here's the gank: Men of Valor™ for PC Heads to Retail Store Shelves in the United StatesThe MP demo relased a few weeks back really didn't do it for me (and I freely admit I really don't go for MP games), so I'm waiting on the SP demo (and some reviews perhaps) to see if I'll be picking this up. Nothing really against the game, but there are just so many other games I'm playing (and beta testing, hint hint), right now that I dunno if I'll ever have time.. [Update]: Review over at pc.ign where it scores 68% overall. And another gushing review at Game Zone. (88%) Related News |

I saw via Blue's News that the Ghost Recon 2 website has been launched. Check out the current batch of screenshots (PS2 and Xbox only tho..) while you're there as well. Latest intel I have is the PC version ships Q1 2005, after the console versions.. Rather not liking that trend.. Related News |

Conflict: Vietnam review

The guys at GameSpot have posted a review of Pivotal Games' squad-based 'Nam shooter, Conflict: Vietnam, and scored it a rather low 6.1. Here's some juice: The biggest problem with the missions is the stingy save system. The game saves automatically at the beginning of each level. After that, you're granted only two saves per mission to use at your discretion. Given the length and relative difficulty of the game--and the frequency with which your entire squad will be wiped out by an incoming RPG --that's at least four or five saves too few. Unless you're willing to split your squad into two manually controlled groups (so that one can heal the other) and painstakingly creep through the long levels, you'll definitely be replaying large sections of various missions.Related News |

SWAT4 preview
[23:46:30 EDT] by

Finally some news on what's going on with SWAT4. GameSpot has posted a preview of the game, which is now being worked on by Irrational Games. Clippage: SWAT 4 will realistically simulate bullet ballistics, tracking each round as it emerges from the muzzle of a gun, picks up velocity, and strikes its target. The game will also use the Havok physics engine to model its objects, so you can expect to see environments where "cover" isn't really cover. The game will physically model the thickness and density of environmental objects, so glass bottles will shatter and office chairs will teeter and then collapse when shot, and hiding behind sheet metal when a perp has an AK-47 trained on you will be a good way to add some extra holes to your body. The game is set for a Q1 2005 release. *Full Spectrum Warrior review
[16:12:29 EDT] by

The gents at EuroGamer sent word that they've posted a review of Pandemic Studios' Full Spectrum Warrior, and scored it at a solid 80%. Here's an excerpt: While other games struggle with AI positioning to a greater (H&D) or lesser (R6) extent, in FSW it's all about the placement of your men. Like an elaborate game of war chess, every move has to be plotted with great thought and precision and entirely depends on your ability to place your men sensibly by outflanking enemy and keeping your squads protected and under cover at all times. Any reckless positioning soon results in the enemy AI seeking you out, followed by a slow motion death in black and white and a swift return to your last checkpoint. [Update]: Another review can be found at ActionTrip where it scores an 88%. Related News |
