DD2 review [22:49:53 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The Games Temple has posted a quickie review of nFusion Interactive & Infogrames WWII tactical shooter, Deadly Dozen 2: Pacific Theater. Here's a snip to start you off:
Unlike Medal of Honor, which most closely resembles this game in genre if not price and quality, missions are open-ended. You have an objective, say capture some documents, and pick the guys you want to do it. For example a good group would be a sniper, a heavy machine gunner, a medic, and an all-around leader. You can pick your path to attack from, go in slow or quick, and use stealth or firepower. This is certainly no run-and-gun type of shooter. Doing so, as I did the first few games, will lead to an early grave. Thankfully quicksave and quickload are indeed quick and can be used anytime.
Good read; check out the rest.

Chrome shot / info [20:49:04 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The folks at Techland sent some info on Chrome, their upcoming tactical sci-fi shooter.

Chrome ss

Here's the blurb:
What is most amazing about the game is not only its complex plot or a remarkable number of weapons and implants used in it but, above all, its advanced graphics, ultrarealistic and detailed. For the first time in a computer game the graphics will make you feel as if you were in a real jungle. A slightest noise could scare off the birds hidden in the bushes and let the enemies know about you. A shooting may cause a lot of harm to your enemies and damage the wildlife around you. However, you will not be able to destroy any objects, such as a fence or a chest, with just a single shot. In order to do so, you will have to use a different kind of weapon or need to fire your gun more often.

DD:PT review [16:32:39 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameOver, which does some of the best reviews in the business, has posted a review of Infogrames & nFusion Interactive's Deadly Dozen 2: Pacific Theater, where it scores a solid 85% overall.

DD:PT review

Here's some of the fine print:
WWII was arguably one of the first wars that legitimized the necessary use of specialized forces. And the objectives given to you will highlight why. Typical tasks require you to rescue friendly forces trapped in enemy territory or clear out fortified positions that might be a bottleneck to the main attack force. The developers of Pacific Theater have added some tense moments to the game though. In some cases, you'll be going in with indiscriminate bomber support; indiscriminate only because you might get hit yourself. With allied planes zooming above your head, the battles don't feel like it's you vs. world.
A whole bunch of screenshots are included as well.

Raven Shield Demo Troubles? [11:24:35 EST] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
Having troubles connecting to a game of the Raven Shield demo? If your connection is slower than DSL, this might fix your problem. Apparently, sometimes the GSrouters.dat file gets deleted without being re-written. This Ubi.com forum thread provides the code you need for that file (just copy and paste the whole code segment displayed) and advises you to set the file properties to Read-Only, so that it doesn't happen, again.

Raven Shield Demo Stats [20:47:15 EST] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
The Raven Shield demo currently is all the rage amongst fans of the Rainbow Six series of tactical PC shooters. Did you know that your game statistics are being tracked? There appears to be over 54,000 people who have already played the demo. Last I checked the Canadians were leading the pack. (Who knew?) But if you'd like to know who the worst (and probably the laggiest) player is, just keep filtering the skill score "less than" 600, 500, 400, etc. until you only come up with one name. (Make sure there is no one worse than him.) This Cherry Coke's for you, Spawn.O.S.!

STALKER interview [7:34:14 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
NextGame.it has posted an interview with developer GSC Gameworld, where they discuss S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Oblivion Lost. Here's a sample Q & A:
Nextgame.it: Besides of weaponry, it is obvious that walking in an area like the Zone is not like a walk in the park. What kind of equipment will help players to defend the character from the environmental menaces?

GSC:
Basically, player will need quite a lot of equipment, including detectors, Geiger counter, protective suits and more to survive in the Zone. The deeper you go into the Zone, the more sophisticated equipment you will require. For example, initially, the player will start with a simple anomaly detector providing no visual information, but reacting to anomalies with characteristic sound only. Further in the game, detectors will let you know where anomaly is on the screen, sophisticated detectors can show anomaly intensity and so on.
Some nice screenshots go along with the article, so do check it out..

Raven Shield preview [7:17:04 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Following yesterday's demo release, GameSpot has posted a preview of Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, covering a lot of the MP aspect of the game.

R6 preview

Here's a highlight:
Raven Shield multiplayer is broken into a number of adversarial and cooperative game modes. Adversarial modes have players competing against each other, while the cooperative modes have players working together to complete objectives. On the adversarial side, survival and team survival modes are much like traditional deathmatch. Three other adversarial modes (bomb, hostage, and pilot) and three cooperative modes (mission, terrorist hunt, and hostage rescue) are also included.
Release is set for Feb 2003.

Another DD2 review [0:46:07 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
There's another DD2 review from the guys at the unofficial Hidden & Dangerous II website, where they gave it a 9 out of 10 score. Here's how they sum it up:
PT is certainly a more balanced game than DD1, the enemies “super vision” has gone and it now feels like a more evenly matched & less frustrating affair. The jungle setting is just stunning (one level reminiscent of the valley in FFF/DB stands out) & is backed up by some superb sound effects and music. The inclusion of multiplayer is a big plus, and the co-op game is excellent. I loved the first game, this is a huge step up and not just in terms of graphics, the jungle setting is refreshingly different for a WW2 game. Hopefully nFusion have more in store for the dozen but in the meantime there are already more maps on the way from the beta test team. There are a few bugs & glitches in the multi game (patch imminent), apart from that it’s very stable.
So far that's 2 good reviews...

DD2: PT review [23:43:48 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The folks at GameSpy have reviewed nFusion Interactive's & Infogrames' WWII tactical shooter, Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater, and gave it an 8.3 score overall.

DD2 review

Here's a snip:
This is largely because Pacific Theater, even more so than the original Deadly Dozen, is a game about creeping around and killing enemies from a distance. Thankfully, the environments and enemy AI make this style of play extremely satisfying. Pacific Theater's jungle environments are its most impressive feature. The levels are enormous--most appear to encompass perhaps two or three square miles of terrain. The diversity, density, and constant swaying motion of trees and undergrowth create a jungle atmosphere that's entirely believable.
Good stuff, check out the rest.

Deadly Dozen: PT ships [21:07:00 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Ha, about a week late, but Infogrames has finally put out a press release for Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater. Here's the good stuff:
INFOGRAMES ENTERS INTO MILITARY CONFLICT WITH DEADLY DOZEN(TM): PACIFIC THEATER
November 11, 2002
Sequel to Deadly Dozen Features a Whole New War in the Pacific
BEVERLY, Mass., Nov. 11 -- Infogrames, Inc. (Nasdaq: IFGM), a leading publisher of entertainment software, announces the return of the Deadly Dozen with the shipping of Deadly Dozen(TM): Pacific Theater to software retailers this week. Developed by nFusion Interactive, Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater is an easy-to-learn squad- based tactical shooter featuring realistic environments and movie-like action throughout the entire World War II Pacific campaign.

"The success of the original Deadly Dozen was our challenge to take this game to the next level," said Nancy MacIntyre, Vice President of Marketing for Infogrames, Inc. "With the addition of multi-player modes, improved playability, graphics and artificial intelligence, Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater delivers serious WWII battle action for fans of the franchise."

Capturing the addictive game play and pulse-pounding missions of the original, Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater engages gamers in commando-style attacks against the forces of Japan. To achieve victory, gamers lead their customized squad of twelve skilled heroes on missions from the Philippines to Okinawa. Creeping silently through immersive environments, the Deadly Dozen sneak up on their enemy through dense jungles, crawl on their stomachs for surprise attacks, dodge shots, flee and duck behind cover, and drive tanks and other authentic WWII vehicles. Before coordinating their attacks or rescuing captured POW's, players can outfit their squads with an impressive arsenal of over 20 authentic weapons and items, from more traditional "Tommy guns" and semi-automatic rifles to more exotic weapons like flamethrowers and even a Samurai-style sword.

Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater features both Single Mission and Campaign single player modes, as well as the ability to make maps for full missions, single player or cooperative modes. The unique multi-player modes - Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Cooperative, and Mission Based - allow players to join games in progress and save multi-player sessions.

A demo of Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater is currently available at www.fileplanet.com. It includes a single player mission, one Deathmatch and one Capture the Flag map. The single player map will feature both cooperative and mission modes so players can try 4 multi-player modes as well as single play.

Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater is available for a suggested retail price of $29.99.
The game is in stores now, so def be sure to pick up a copy. The first patch for the game should be out very shortly as well, so stay tuned...

Specnaz shots [21:00:44 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
After a long time since the last update, the official Specnaz: Project Wolf website has been updated with 8 new screenshots of the game in action (err, in still-life I guess..)

Hmm, the weapon models look nice, but the rest looks a bit behind the times... We'll have to see what develops.
