H&D2 shots [22:40:31 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Looks like today is H&D2 day. Fugue from the unofficial H&D2 site sent word that they've posted 10 new shots they received from an Argentinean gaming mag (Xtreme PC Magazine).

HD2 shots

They appear to be from an older build, but are still pretty cool nonetheless. Check 'em out!

H&D2 interview [19:12:22 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Finally! Some other news! GameSpot has posted a interview with Thomas Pluharik of Illusion Softworks, developer of Hidden & Dangerous 2. Here's a snip on the new mission types:
GameSpot: The original Hidden & Dangerous featured a wide variety of different settings for its missions. What are some of the new mission objectives in the sequel?

Thomas Pluharik: Some of the mission objectives are similar to Hidden & Dangerous, but there are many new objectives (recon and photography, stealth and sabotage, etc.). The missions are also more complex than in Hidden & Dangerous and can have more than two or three objectives per level.
WOAH! More complex than the missions of H&D1?! They were already pretty complex.. I can't wait to see 'more complex' ones for H&D2!

All the shots fit to post [17:45:23 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Continuing on the OFP shot news, GameSpok UK has posted 31 new shots , showing off the editor and such.

OFP shots

Here's a clip from the description:
This new batch of screens is of special interest for potential designers and mod makers as they show images of the engine that Bohemia uses to deploy units and build the missions which you'll experience in the game. Operation Flashpoint will ship with this editor, allowing you to create single and multiplayer missions with no real technical or programming knowledge and then enable you to share them across the net with fellow Op Flash players.
And for those keeping score at home, did ya notice that the last 6 news items in a row were all for OFP shots.. (sigh)

H&D 2 preview/shots [17:11:52 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Fugue from the unofficial H&D2 site sent word that Italian gaming site NextGame.it has posted a preview of Illusion Softworks' upcoming game, Hidden & Dangerous 2. The preview is in Italian, but the pics are viewable by all. Most of the pics we've seen before, but there are a few new weapon and vehicle renders to be seen.

H&D 2 news [4:22:23 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
bulletGoD Games has sent out a press release that lets us all know that they will be publishing Illusion Softworks' Hidden & Dangerous 2. Here's a quick rip of the game's features:
Hidden & Dangerous 2's Features include:
* Over 20 complex missions in nine campaigns.
* The ability to interact with the environment, including communication through the game with non-playing characters, etc.
* Enhanced character development that progresses through the game.
* Engrossing storyline that follows the lead characters and enhances the game's atmosphere.
* New and improved accessible controls including active cursor and scrollbar and automatic actions.
* Improved combat tactics and greater control over the entire unit.

Check out the full press release for more. The orig H&D was a great game for it's time (if a bit quirky..), so I have high hopes for H&D2.
bullet

In other H&D2 news, eUniverse Games (the old Ga-Source it seems), has posted 5 screenshots of the game, 3 of which look to be new.. [Update]: Blah, they're not new.. GA-Source always had a habbit of posting stuff as 'new' even tho it's been seen elsewhere. Eh, the pics are worth a second look at least..

HD2 shots

Thanks Voodoo Extreme for the news.. Soooo nice to have news on something other than OFP!

H&D2 preview/shots [12:23:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw via Blue's that GameSpot UK has posted a new preview of Illusion Softworks' Hidden & Dangerous 2, and included some new screenshots (weapons renders) as well. Here's a snip on what's new for H&D2:
We noticed that Hidden & Dangerous 2 seeks to improve a great deal on some aspects of the original title which gamers had been disappointed with. The most obvious of these is the multiplayer option, which many felt was weak in the original. This time around, online combat will include deathmatches, capture the flag, team games and new environments, which we are promised will be highly challenging. The multiplayer option also hopes to cater for up to nine gamers at a time, which should make for some very intense combat. We were told that the game controls have been improved as well, allowing for automatic actions and more easily managed combat tactics.
Great stuff.. check it out..

New budget title [19:09:47 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Stomped has posted some news of a new budget title that might be up our alley, CIA Operative, developed by 2015 (the guys also working on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault), and using the Quake 1 engine (yes, Q1).

CIA Operative info/shots

Here's the rip:
Now they have completed another Quake 1 engine game for publisher ValuSoft with a more adult theme called CIA Operative. Here is the description from the game's producer Grant Collier:
In CIA Operative the player is an elite government agent whose mission is to protect the USA's interests abroad. This Quake powered shooter takes the player to various hotspots around the world to assassinate drug lords, eliminate unsanctioned weapon stockpiles, and destroy staging points for illicit substances that if unchecked would poison the youth of America. All must be done without sullying the image of the world's only super power.
If memory servers, Mr. Collier also produced Zombie's Spec Ops: Operation Bravo ex-pack for Ripcord.. CIA Operative prob won't be all that tactical (along the lines of Project IGI perhaps), but it looks pretty nice from the screenshots.. And it'll prob run at some serious frame rates using today's hardware.

OFP interview [18:33:07 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw via Blue's News that World Online has posted an interview with Marek Spanel of Bohemia Interactive, talking about Operation Flashpoint of course.

OFP interview

Here's a bit on the release date:
WOL: Can you confirm that Operation Flashpoint will be really in stores at the end of May?

Marek Spanel: Unfortunately, its already probable that Operation Flashpoint should be released in June. Initially, english version should have been released at the end of May and other versions about 3 weeks later, however we decided to release game at the same time all over the world. Above all for one's sake adverse effects to software piracy in the countries where the release date is later.
So then why is the U.S. release date September?! Come on Codemasters!!

Op Flashpoint preview no. 459 [18:24:27 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
EuroGamer has posted a preview of Bohemia Interactive's recently delayed game, Operation Flashpoint, based on a new preview build from publisher Codemasters. Here's a clip:
In total there are three vast islands to explore in the main campaign, with total freedom of movement to roam across them as you like. There are dozens of missions to complete, ranging from defending a radar installation against enemy saboteurs to ambushing enemy tanks and securing villages. Along the way you will hook up with the local resistance to rescue hostages, sneak through enemy lines in civilian clothes, and desperately try to hold off overwhelming Russian forces as they move in on your position.
The preview covers the campaign, mission editor, multiplayer and more. Def chek it out..

H&D2 interview [18:04:24 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Stomped is at it again with a new interview with Thomas Pluharik, lead designer on Hidden & Dangerous 2, coming out later this year from Illusion Softworks. Here's a snip on the buddy control refinements:
Stomped: Since the game will give the player control over a four man squad what will the game's AI allow the squad to do?

Pluharik: It depends how you will set the AI of your men. There will be a couple of switches which can change AI of your men from agressive beast who is running all around the level and killing everybody within the range or to mindless servant who will obey only your orders. The old interface with voice orders to your soldiers has been simplified.
Check out the rest..

Downtime.. [17:58:13 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

Op Flashpoint news [0:05:32 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Stomped has posted an interview with Marek Spanel, producer-designer of Bohemia Interactive's upcoming game, Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis. Here's a snip:
Stomped: The engine for Operation Flashpoint has a lot of features other games do not, such as large outdoor areas and drivable vehicles. How difficult was it to implement these features?

Spanel: We had to develop many new things and we have spent a lot of time in researching new things. Often we found the way we choose wasn’t right and we had to start some part of the game from the scratch. Sometimes it looked like never ending story but after four years of development we’re finally reaching the end. We wanted to offer the player enormous variety and freedom and we never expect it to be easy.
In other OFP news, the game did indeed get pushed back a bit. Coldwar Flashpoint is reporting that the new official release date is June 22nd 2001 for Europe and September 2001 for the US! That sucks. Looks like Daily Radar was on the money when they posted that info (story). What really pisses me off, more so than a ship date getting pushed back, is when the developer/publisher then back-pedals and says it's not true, then it comes out later that it is indeed true. All I know is that the game better be rock solid when it finally gets here. This thing's almost been delayed as much as Duke Nukem Forever.

H&D2 status report [18:31:47 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys over at the unofficial Hidden and Dangerous 2 website have posted a 9-page report on Illusion Softworks' Hidden & Dangerous 2 based on their visit to Take2 in early April. Here's how they describe a particular movie sequence, and smack down OFP in the process:
The movie ran in full screen and started up with the words Illusion Softworks. The music started and we saw these British soldiers running through a village, It nearly made me fall off my chair, I managed to keep my balance by grabbing fugues tongue which was now trailing on the floor. The animation was the best I have ever seen, we saw firefights, dogfighting, close-ups of troops, buildings, snipers and en excellent clip of a soldier firing the BAR. We both agreed that the competition had no chance of coming close to this, we have both played the Flashpoint demo, but to be perfectly honest, it is light years behind H&D2 for graphics, animation, atmosphere and effects.
Bold words, and admittedly written by a true fan, but I have high hopes for H&D2 myself.. We should def be hearing more about this title at E3...

OFP shots anyone? [2:09:36 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GamePro has posted 15 more shots of Operation Flashpoint in action.

OFP shots

Truthfully, by now, all these shots are starting to look the same...

[Update]: For the sake of completeness, I'll report that Operation Flashpoint Network has posted a bunch of screenshots taken from press beta #2 of the game. Thanks Coldwar Flashpoint.

OFP release date, take 3 [1:33:36 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I'm hearing more reports of Operation Flashpoint being delayed for non-European versions of the game. Reader David Gallaway from Austrailia informed me that Ozisoft, who distribute Codemaster games in Australia, have put back the release date in Australia from May 16 until June 8th, which is pretty much what I've been hearing elsewhere.. I kinda don't think any extra work will be done on the game in that time, only that it'll take that long to get localized versions of the game out, and get it shipped around the globe, etc.. So if you're absolutely desperate to get the game, you may have to import it if ya want it as soon as it's released.

OFP preview [2:12:43 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
In more OFP news, Games Xtreme has posted a preview, based on a press demo of the game. Here's a quote, in typical Brittish fashion:
Flashpoint comes alive with a host of tiny details that make it into a solid contender for the best solider sim/fps to date. The vehicles and landscapes are all gritty and rich in visual detail, inside and out. It's possible in Flashpoint to be the pilot, gunner, and passenger in any of the vehicles in the game. There's something about sitting in a M113 APC and watching your colleagues bumping around in the back with you.
More great stuff in there, so check it out..

Even yet more OFP shots [1:51:09 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

H&D2 at E3 [2:26:45 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw on Stomped via Blue's that Gathering of Developers will be showing Illusion Softworks' Hidden and Dangerous 2 at their E3 booth this year. Here's what they posted:
In a bit of a surprise, Stomped has learned through a G.O.D. spokesperson that both of Illusion Softworks' upcoming action games, Hidden and Dangerous II and Mafia: The City of Lost Children, will both be on display at the Promised Lot this year.
Since G.O.D is a subsidiary of Take 2, I guess it makes sense.

Next RedStorm title [21:15:34 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Rogue Spear Retreat is reporting that RedStorm's next title will be called Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. Here's the rip:
The new game is called Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and is a team based action game but unlike the counter-terrorists of the Rainbow Six series, Ghost Recon deals with a secret Army special forces team. One part of the article describes Red Storm's plans for online multiplayer where it states both PC and Xbox players will get to play each other, suggesting that Ghost Recon will also be a PC game as well. The game is scheduled to be released this fall.
More details to follow I'm sure..

OFP on schedule for May [16:00:16 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Fansite Coldwar Flashpoint has confirmed with both publisher Codemaster, and developer Bohemia Interactive that Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis has not been pushed back to September, and is still set for a May 2001 release. Good news!

They also have news that EBGames has OFP listed as "coming soon", with a release date of May 15th.

H&D 2 goodies [1:58:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys over at the unofficial Hidden & Dangerous 2 website have just returned from a trip to Take 2's development studio in Windsor, where they got a sneak peek at Illusion Softwork's upcoming game, Hidden & Dangerous 2. They've gathered so much info that they haven't had time to post it yet, but they did manage to get this FAQ online to start us off. Here's a sample Q&A:
One of the major criticisms of other War games is the unrealistic player physics, especially running and jumping, people complained that its too fast, especially in multiplayer. Hidden and dangerous is still the most realistic in this department, have you made any improvements in H&D2, and will the game remain realistic?

[TP]: In this case we are balancing between realism and playability. But nothing revolutionary has changed and we have also added some features in movement possibilities (climbing over obstacles etc.)
Can't wait for the rest of the new info to make it's way online!

Venom preview [22:56:02 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC.IGN has posted a preview of GSC Gameworld's game-in-progress, Venom, the near-future team-based shooter. Here's a snip on your in-game buddy:
Like other tactical shooters, you'll also have an AI partner to control as you take on the world at large. Think the AI of Rogue Spear with the intimacy of Daikatana and you'll get a feel for how you'll be working with your teammate. You'll have a variety of people to choose from, but you'll only be able to use one at a time in a mission, so select carefully. Each of them will have their own strengths and weaknesses, and just like you select weaponry in a tactical shooter for your battles, your partner may just be the important item you pack with you.

2 more OFP previews [22:41:02 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Two more Operation Flashpoint previews have surfaced today.
bulletFirst up, XGR.com has posted a quickie preview of tha geme, based on a beta build. Included are 20 screen shots.
bulletNext up, Daily radar has also posted a small preview as well, also based on a beta build, and included 3 shots to go with it. (Dunno what they ware talking about the game being pushed back to September 2001.. Hopefully that's wrong..)
Thanks again Blue's.

OFP preview [22:10:37 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Yet another Operation Flashpoint preview has popped up, this time over at Computer Games Online, with 9 new screens too. Here's a clip:
From publisher Codemasters and Prague-based Bohemia Interactive Studio, OF may herald a new kind of combat squad shooter. While the basic play is much like a Delta Force game, OF sets itself above other 11 Bravo (infantry) simulators by adding realistic touches that greatly aide in simulating the combat environment. The game features a well-defined command and control structure, a system for advancement in rank and responsibility, mission driven scenarios, "real-world" weapons modeling, and things like fatigue, aiming difficulties while on the run, and wounds. The intent is to place you squarely in the boots of a grunt—in both first and third person—as few other shooters have.
Thanks ColdWar Flashpoint (and Blue's).

Another OFP tactics guide [18:24:09 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys at OperationFlashpoint.com have posted their own tactics article for the Operation Flashpoint demo, complete with pictures showing off the tactics in use. Here's a snip on surviving a gun battle:
In battle the best tactic is to go prone when engaging the enemy. This will reduces your body target area (making it harder for the enemy to shoot you) and also making your aiming more accurate. Use trees and bushes as cover, thus making it harder for the enemy to see where you are. Never stay in an open area for a long time. This will make you a nice target for many enemy soldiers who might be hiding in that area. Become familure with the area by scanning the land searching for enemy targets and plan the best route to engage the enemy. Do not just run into enemy lines pretending to be Rambo, this will not work and you will be sent home in a box.
Ha, well said..

OFP demo guide [1:58:41 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Lickshot from TacticalPlanet has posted a guide to making your way thru the recently-released Operation Flashpoint demo. Here's how he kicks it off:
This section serves as an introduction to the basic concepts you will need to employ in Operation Flashpoint. Battlefield tactics require a good sense of situational awareness as well as knowing how to use your equipment to your greatest advantage. For now, this page will focus m
