H&D Deluxe review [1:25:40 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw via Blue's News that Computer & Video Games has posted a quickie (3 paragraphs in a 4-point font) review of Take-2 and Lonely Cat Games' re-make of Hidden & Dangerous, Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe, that features a nice modern engine and the same great gameplay. The game scores an 86% overall.

Sum of All Fears preview [23:34:54 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Besides Raven Shield, Redstorm is also working on The Sum of All Fears, based on the Tom Clancy novel and upcoming movie of the same name. It's back to being a hostage rescue specialist for this one, and it'll take place primarily indoors again. Here's a clip on how the game plays out:
As previously noted, SOAF was created with the Ghost Recon engine, but it differs in a variety of ways. Unlike in Ghost Recon, the bulk of each mission here is spent in exquisitely detailed and utterly convincing indoor environments (check out the computer monitors found in many of the missions). While Ghost Recon put you in charge of up to six soldiers divided into three squads, SOAF gives you direct control over only two immediate teammates--the behavior of other squads is scripted, and you have little or no say about their fate. Some players might find this slightly frustrating as they hear casualty reports streaming in from other teams, but on the other hand, the challenge of coordinating your group's actions with the other teams maneuvers can be hugely rewarding.
Too bad they're not using the Unreal Warfare engine for this one too.. Check out GameSpot for the full article and screenshots.

Stalingrad shots [20:43:13 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

IGI2 shots [20:35:51 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

Raven Shield site goes 'live' [20:26:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
After weeks of running just the teaser site, UbéSoft has officially opened the Rainbow Six: Raven Shield website, and to kick it off, there's an interview with the producer of Raven Shield, Chadi Lebbos. Here's a bit on the locations to be found in the game:
3.) What is the story/environment that Raven Shield is set in?

We’ve picked mission environments in interesting locales. Each map needs to be “unique” in terms of graphics, game play and sounds. There will be a variety of environments such as snow, desert, mountain, day, night, rain, outdoor… mostly in Europe and South America. Of course, locations have been selected according to the story line and the major plot.
I'm curious to see what they come up with now that thay're using the Unreal Warfare engine.

[Update]: ToTheGame has also posted new shots of the game in action, so check those out too.

RedStorm/UbiSoft Game Wave! [19:15:32 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
Read the Tom Clancy book "Sum of All Fears"? Neither have I. Well, Ben Affleck is very soon going to star in the movie of the same name, as the character Jack Ryan. (smirk) But that's not all! You can play the game, a squad-based shooter comparable to Rainbow Six, as soon as May 28th!

If squad-based shooters aren't your bag, what about a realistic stealth shooter reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid? And what if it appeared to have dynamic shadows, like the up-coming title New World Order? Let's call it Splinter Cell. (I haven't read these previews, yet, but there are some juicy keywords leaping out at me. RedStorm may redeem itself, yet, after that disappointment Ghost Recon.)

And the cherry on top is a preview of Rainbow Six: Raven Shield, complete with screenshots. Man, I take back what I said about the French-Canadian UbiSoft team. This one is gonna be a scorcher to any fan of R6. Being pro-Israel, I can't want to try out those Tavor's.

Conflict Desert Storm US publisher [8:06:56 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
This slipped thru the cracks, but U.K. publisher SCi has announced that Take 2 Interactive will be the U.S. publisher for Pivotal Games' squad shooter Conflict: Desert Storm. Here's the pertinent part:
SCi Entertainment Group Plc (SEG), one of Europe’s leading publishers of computer games, today announces the signing of North American publishing agreements with Take Two Interactive (“Take Two”) for its eagerly awaited game Conflict: Desert Storm and for the PC version of the number one Playstation hit The Italian Job.

Based on the 1991 Gulf War, Conflict: Desert Storm is a squad based action game, where the player takes control of an elite Special Air Service or Delta Force Unit, ordered behind enemy lines to infiltrate enemy territory and neutralise key targets. Cameron Spence, an ex-member of 22 Special Air Service (SAS), is advising SCi on the logistics and realism of the product. The game will be launched on Sony Playstation 2, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube and PC formats.
The bad news is the release date is now September 2002, instead of June. Looks like we'll just have to wait.. (sigh)

User-Made Maps for GR [21:56:35 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
There is a whole host of screenshots of the DE_Aztec map from Counter-Strike being made for Ghost Recon by Low Profile. Close-Quarters Combat in GR is promised!

Remember the annoyingly popular "Bunkers" map in Rogue Spear? Well, check out its Mama! What a hottie! We'll be seeing her in Ghost Recon, soon, thanks to the well-known Mike Schell.

Black Hawk Down mod for Rogue Spear [21:52:24 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
Despite the objections of the Somalia '93 community and after being coaxed, LungButter is going ahead with his plans to make a 3-map mod for Rogue Spear based on the events depicted in the book and the movie Black Hawk Down!.

As others are voicing, RedStorm/UbiSoft should give LungButter a job, because he is making some class-act maps! I am looking forward to this mod, as I think it will give some new life to my installation of RS.

New World Order Resource [21:39:11 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
ToTheGame has a nice collection of New World Order resources to click to. I tell ya, it is obvious that the ground-breaking lighting employed in this shooter is going to significantly affect gameplay, though I don't know how much the game skins are going to take advantage of this, seeing that they are gravitating more towards a Bruce Willis presentation.

The multiplayer demo is due out, anytime now.

Screenies of Next Rainbow Six Iteration [21:16:42 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
Looks like I'm gonna be RedStorm's little man-whore, once again. *whimper*

DD: Pacific Theatre [13:27:40 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
Remember the WWII game called Deadly Dozen released not to long ago from nFusion? It was a great little game. Well now nFusion Interactive is working on Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theatre. As you might have guessed, you battle the Japanese this time (How sweet is that?). The best part is it will feature both death match and Co-Op. Not only that but you have the ability to import maps from the first Deadly Dozen for multiplayer. Read all about it here.

Personal Note:
I hope the weapons do more damage this time around. It seemed to take 50 shots to kill someone. I would also love to see the draw distance go much farther too. (Less fog)

Thanks Blues

New WWII-Online Video [20:21:27 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
When I bought World War 2 Online several months ago, it was so bad that I vowed that they couldn't pay me enough money to play it. Well, look at it, now! (approx. 5 Meg video) Fishu, a well-known WW2 weapons modder for Rogue Spear, organized a bombing mission using the new HE-111. Amazing. Looks like WW2Online might finally be coming together as it was intended to do. Dare I take the chance? Once-bitten, twice-shy?

OFP: Resistance interview [5:23:16 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
HomeLAN Fed has popped up an interview with Bohemia Interactive's producer/designer Marek Spanel, discussing Operation Flashpoint: Resistance. Great stuff; here's a clip:
HomeLAN - What were the team's goals when they decided to create the expansion pack?

Marek Spanel - We had three main goals: to create a new campaign that would surpass the quality of the original by introducing new gameplay elements; to improve the multiplayer game in a number of different ways, and to introduce some new fresh elements which will extend the Operation Flashpoint experience in general, like smoother more realistic landscapes and completely new weapon and vehicle classes.
Release is still slated for June 21st 2002.

Thanks to me for that one..

IGI2 preview [1:52:51 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The Armchair Empire has posted a quickie preview of Codemasters' IGI 2: Covert Strike. Here's a clip:
The enemy AI improvements have been made in enemy reactions to events and in the way in which they will assault the gamer. Enemy troops will now react not only to alarms, but also to the sounds of shots fired, and to corpses. They will alert fellow troops and will fan out from the alert point to search for intruders and if Jones is discovered, he will have a tough firefight on his hands. Enemy troops will flank Jones using covering fire, and will try many tactics to flush him out. Enemies will no longer respawn (thank the gaming gods), and different ranking enemies will react differently.
Not much new info, but covers all the bases..

BF: 1942 preview [0:58:15 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The folks at GameSpy have posted a preview of Digital Illusion CE's and EA's upcoming MP-focused WWII shooter, Battlefield: 1942, which, contrary to the title takes place from 1941 to 1945.

BF:1942 preview

Here's a snip to start you off:
In all, 16 maps are being planned for the game's release, set across four WWII "theaters" -- Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Pacific, and Operation Torch in North Africa. Says Balthaser, "each one of these theaters has 4 battles, each simulating some of the major battles of that area. For example, in the Pacific, we've got Guadalcanal, Wake, Iwo Jima and Midway".
Gotta admit, I'm psyched to play the Pacific theater. Def check out the screenshots too..

SWAT: Urban Justice shots [22:01:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpot has posted some new screenshots of SWAT: Ghetto Justice. (grin)

SWAT: Urban Justice screens

Here's a little heads-up on what the game is about:
SWAT: Urban Justice will let players assume the role of an elite Los Angeles SWAT officer in the year 2006. After years of destructive gang warfare, the SWAT team is called in to bring order back to the city. The game will feature a number of improvements on the previous games in the series, including new weapons, characters, and gear. It will include 16 new missions that can be played in mission, career, and multiplayer modes. The game will also come with all the tools necessary to build custom missions and campaigns and share them with other players.
Release date is still slated for September 2002.

New User-Made Island/Terrain for OFP [18:03:42 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
For Operation: Flashpoint there is a new island made by OFPInternals. It is based on real terrain data of the Nation Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, U.S.A. The N.T.C. is the place where the United States Army has carried out some of its grandest wargames.

Currently there is some difficulty in downloading it. I'll keep you posted.

Battlefield 1942 Late Summer [3:59:43 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
Gamespot reports that Battlefield 1942 is being pushed back to late summer. They also posted 4 new screenshots. If the multiplayer is anything like like Codename: Eagle but in WWII settings, we are in for a great time.

Conflict: Desert Storm Interview [3:17:08 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
HomeLan Fed has a interview with Conflict: Desert Storms producer Lee Singleton. Here is a snip:
HomeLAN - What weapons will be used by the player in the game?

Lee Singleton - Real Gulf War weapons - we've developed a really nice ballistic model that uses real muzzle velocities etc. The result for the user translates into weapons doing what they would expect them to do, for example: The Barrett Sniper Rifle is truly awesome and will down an enemy in a single shot from long range. A silenced pistol is relatively accurate over a short distance but ineffective over a long range. Amongst other things we've also got heavy weapons, plastic explosive, night vision goggles, grenades, as well as a knife for stealth kills and the classic M16. One of our favorites is the LAW 66's anti tank weapon. A really cool feature is the ability to call in heavy artillery back up, you can designate a targets for air strikes by laser and can sit back and watch them happen!

Stalingrad Q & A [0:35:38 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Following yesterday's announcement of the game, Computer & Video Games has posted a quickie Q & A with Rodolphe Donain of French developer 4x, the studio working on Stalingrad. Here's a sample Q & A:
Does sniping feature heavily in the game?

RD: It's not just a sniping game – but there will obviously be a lot of sniping in there. It's not a 'Silent Scope' type of game. Sniping is one of the features, sure, but not the only feature! We have attack and defence sequences, various types of mission where, for example, sabotage, spying, these kind of things – not like Medal Of Honour!
Still no projected release date..

SoF2 MP preview [22:46:03 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpy has posted a hands-on preview of the MP aspect of Raven and Activision's Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix. Here, taste:
Although there aren't any "classes" (all characters are created equal), there are a number of pre-set player configurations, allowing you to quickly grab groups of weapons appropriate for a soldier, sniper, etc, saving you the trouble of selecting each weapon yourself. You can pick up weapons left behind by other players (convenient for when you're out of ammo), but as in games like Counter-Strike, Global Ops and Medal Of Honor, you'll need to drop one first.
Some real sweet-looking shots go along with it. Def check 'em out!(tm)

Stalingrad [1:30:45 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
4X Studio has announced a new Tactical FPS set in WWII called Stalingrad. The game looks like its based on the movie Enemy at the Gates . You play a Russian sniper set out to terrorize the German army. Best of all it will have CO-OP. No release date has been set but I will be following the game. Here is the announcement over at pc.ign with screenshots.

SoF 2 preview [0:31:02 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys at ActionTrip have posted a hands-on preview of Raven and Activision's upcoming military shooter, Soldier of Fortune.

SoF2 preview

Here's a clip on the weapons:
Most guns have several modes of fire and a few of them have a secondary fire option, like an underbarrel grenade launcher, or a sniper zoom. Each gun is very specific, and while I found that AK-74 works like a charm when set on burst mode in long to mid-range combat, the M4 carbine is invaluable in CQB (close quarter combat). The underbarrel grenade launcher of the M4 makes it perfect for clearing small closed in areas like the interiors of tents and cottages. But when you're in a jungle and you want to cause maximum damage, you should go with the MSG90A1 - a 7.62mm semi-automatic sniper rifle based on the G3 design by H&K. It has a rather fast rate of fire for a sniper rifle and deadly accuracy (it's a semi automatic, and not a bolt action rifle). Couple that with the fact that you can fire five shots before you need to reload, and it becomes pretty deadly at long range... but totally ineffective at close range. If you see some of those guerilla fighters rushing your position through the thick grass, I would recommend switching to either your assault rifle of choice or the M60 machinegun - it fires 550 rounds per minute, but it's highly inaccurate.
Release date is reported to be May, but my feeling is it'll be a bit later.

Chrome updates [7:13:19 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Developer Techland has updated the website for Chrome, their sci-fi tactical shooter. Most sections now have expanded content and new gfx/pics (ie. for weapons, vehicles, environments.) Additionally, their screenshots page features 13 new screenshots to gawk at. There are also new concept images and even some wallpapers. Give the site a look. The game kinda looks a bit like HALO or GSC Gameworld's upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Oblivion Lost..

Also, GameSpot has posted an interview with Techland's Krzysztof Marcinkiewicz where they discuss the game in detail. Here's a snip from that:
GS: Does the game always require you to shoot everything that moves, or are there different ways to advance in the game?

KM: Elimination of enemies is not a primary goal in Chrome. Although the player has to complete many different missions, it is not recommended to shoot everything that moves. In some missions, a goal will be to find top-secret data, in another, to retrieve a truck, steal a shuttle, or simply run away and "lose a tail." Sometimes it will be better to remain unnoticed and act quietly, as the enemies will be too numerous or too well equipped to confront. Of course, the elimination of enemies makes up a considerable portion of Logan's job, but it is not what the whole game is all about!
Looks like the game is shaping up nicely..

IGI2 previews [6:03:40 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GamersPulse has popped up a preview of Project IGI 2: Covert Strike, based on some hands-on play with the 'preview copy'. Here's a little bit on the missions you'll be tasked with:
As far as the missions go, I encountered a variety of espionage-style missions. On the one I just discussed, I was infiltrating a factory. Some others included a mission to blow a bridge (within a time limit before the convoy arrived), a mission to steal schematics for a new computer chip, and assassination style mission. These aren't necessarily all stealthy either. For example, on the "blow the bridge" mission, with the ETA of the convoy fast approaching, you may have to go for gusto. There are also times when turret emplacements or vehicle turrets provide enough firepower to make up for what they lack in stealth.

Another preview is up at ELiTeD, where they sum it up as follows:
IGI2: Covert Strike is looking to be the game Project IGI should have been. Improved AI, in game save, multiplayer, better graphics, and new weapons to name a few. Codemasters and Innerloop show they know what you want and deliver. I believe those who played Project IGI will be happy with IGI2, and anyone new to the game will pick it right up and become engrossed. Any gamer who enjoys tactical shooters will have fun with the covert operations in IGI2: Covert Strike.
I had lots of fun with the first one, but it did have some problems. Looks like things should be fixed up nicely for IGI2..

OFP: Resistance site [3:22:52 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I noticed via ColdWar Flashpoint that Codemasters has opened up a page for Operation Flashpoint: Resistance. There are some new screens to check out and some other goodies as well. Here's a clip from the Features section:
* Exciting single-player campaign on the new island with a new central character, a compelling story, and additional gameplay elements.
* Enhanced graphics, with support for higher resolution textures, improved trees and foliage.
* New 100km square island, featuring new buildings and models.
* New weapons and vehicles.
* New multiplayer missions on the new island.
* Enhanced and optimised multi-player code.
Release date is slated for June 21, 2002.

In other IGI news, it seems that the game has slipped to June (which is still Q2 2002, so it hasn't slipped much.) Reportedly, the delay is due to work needed on the multiplayer code..

H&D Deluxe Comparison Shots [18:58:25 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
Would you like to compare the difference between the graphics in Hidden and Dangerous and the updated Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe? Just click on the big pic to see the diff. Keep in mind that you will need a DirectX 8+ compliant video card to take advantage of the dynamic shadows and dynamic lighting found in H&D Deluxe. I recommend a GeForce 3 or 4 Ti. A GeForce 4 MX will not do.

Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza Demo [18:16:05 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
Following strange links, I stumbled upon the demo for Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza. It uses the excellent LithTech engine that made No One Lives Forever a hit and is making Global Ops so popular. The A.I. is highly scripted but also very cinematic.

Incidentally, a highly-professional user-made map for SWAT3:EE was named "Nakatomi Plaza" and used property from the movie Die Hard. It was shut down by the powers-that-be, and now we have this.

Delta Force: TFD interview [16:38:46 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpot has posted an interview (and some new screenshots) with NovaLogic's Wes Eckhart with the topic of discussion being Delta Force: Task Force Dagger.

DF:TFD interview

Here's a clip off the top:
NovaLogic recently announced its fourth Delta Force game, entitled Task Force Dagger. This first-person shooter is actually a stand-alone expansion pack to Delta Force: Land Warrior, and it places you in the midst of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Task Force Dagger aims to re-create the military operations currently underway in Central Asia, and you'll assume the role of a leader of several special operations teams, including SEAL Team 6, Delta Force, US Army Rangers, and the British SAS in an attempt to overthrow that region's military power. We sat down with the series' longtime producer, Wes Eckhart, to find out more about the game.
Lot's of good info in there.. def check it out.

Team Factor Demo [15:51:18 EST] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Yet another goodie I missed during the downtime was that 7fx has released an updated LAN Demo, 77 MB, (with SP bot support) for their team-based MP game, Team Factor. A mirror can be found at 3D Gamers. Here's what ya get:
Check out this LAN demo of the team based tactical FPS. Choose from 4 different specializations: Soldier, Sniper, Specialist or Scout, each featuring different skills, equipment and over fifty weapons. Missions based on "shadow" military operations, real or fictional, make this a great title that focuses on team play.
Anyone try this puppy yet? Post your thoughts in the comments section.. Also, 7fx has stated that another updated demo will be released in about 2 weeks' time (approx. April 10th), so stay tuned.
