Shadow Ops news

I saw a few news items on Atari and Zombie Studios military shooter Shadow Ops: Red Mercury from around the 'net. First up, HomeLAN Fed has posted part 9 of their developer diary (thanks Blue's News) with Zombie's John Williamson, where he details what red mercury is and how it fits into the game story. Interesting stuff.. I also noticed that the official game site is now online and features perhaps the coolest game trailer I've ever seen. Def worth a look. Be sure to also check out the 'making of..' videos as well. It's always great to see 'behind the scenes' stuff.. There was also word last week that the XBox version of the game has gone gold, with the PC version on track for a Fall release. Def looking forward to this one.. Shadow Ops will be the modern-day equivalent of the MoH or CoD WWII shooters... Related News |

Joint Ops preview
[19:23:38 EDT] by

Rushian
GameSpy has popped up a preview of NovaLogic's upcoming multiplayer military shooter, Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising, where they find out what's new since the game's been pushed back to early summer 2004. Here's a snip: All told, the final version of Joint Operations should include about 30 unique maps, 20 of which will be used for "Advance and Secure" mode, which represents the heart of the game. Most of the maps are absolutely huge, which puts a huge emphasis on teams working together, even it's just giving each other rides from one point to another so players don't get stuck wandering the fields on their own.Related News

UGO's PCGameWorld has a review of Kuma\War up for your perusal. It's not a very positive review, but if the reviewer was PMS'ing on the day of writing, then its points might be justified. |

Saw via Blue's News that publisher Encore has decided to delay Soldner: Secret Wars till June 22. Here's the rip: Encore announced today that the ship date for Soldner: Secret Wars has moved to June 22. The original ship date was May 4.While we hate having to wait, the 2 beta demos had some rough edges that needed fixing, so hopefully the extra month will be put to good use polishing the game. Vietcong: Fist Alpha review
[4:15:37 EDT] by

Rushian
The guys at ActionVault have posted a pretty in-depth review of Vietcong: Fist Alpha, which is the expansion pack for Pterodon & Illusion Softworks' Vietnam-era shooter, Vietcong. Here's some clippage: And that's where Fist Alpha truly shines. As well as a game can, it lets you feel like you're really there, experiencing the war for yourself. Crawling through some shrubbery and finding yourself face to face with a Vietnamese soldier induces fear. The intensity of knowing that the enemy is close, but being unable to see them due to heavy jungle is nerve-wracking. So is hearing the sound of a ricochet hitting nearby without knowing from which direction it came. More often than not, you'll be shooting towards the muzzle of a rifle that was visible through the bushes for only an instant, as opposed to aiming at a clearly perceptible target. In addition, many of the missions are pulse-pounding.Related News

CoD: United Offensive preview
[17:36:26 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
ActionTrip has posted a preview of Activision's Call of Duty: United Offensive which is being worked on by Gray Matter Studios and set for a Fall 2004 release. As the player progresses through an assortment of missions, he'll be able to wield a solid range of firearms. The boys at Gray Matter felt obligated to pay tribute to the mighty flamethrower which made a formidable appearance in their shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Apart from the standard arsenal and warfare you saw in the previous game, you'll be able to deploy light machine-guns. This aspect stretches the boundaries of gameplay a wee bit, as it gives you an opportunity to take control of key spots on the map. You simply grab a .30 cal and position it according to the enemy's whereabouts. Two screenshots go along with the article. Related News
