Battlefield: Vietnam [15:56:18 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (1)
In the "no kidding" department, EA & DICE Studios have announced Battlefield: Vietnam. This was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Shacknews has the goods. Here's some of the PR:
EA AND DIGITAL ILLUSIONS ANNOUNCE DEVELOPMENT OF BATTLEFIELD VIETNAM
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 18, 2003 - Lock and load your M-16 and grab your flak jacket, it's time to hit the jungle in Battlefield Vietnam™. Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) announced today that Battlefield Vietnam for the PC is under development and expects to debut in early 2004. The title will be published and distributed by Electronic Arts under the EA GAMES™ brand.

The Battlefield franchise is entering a new era with more firepower and beautiful yet ferocious new combat settings. Staying true to the over-the-top, action-packed multiplayer style that gave Battlefield 1942™ its critical and commercial success, Battlefield Vietnam will drop players into some of the Vietnam War's fiercest battles. Fighting in theatres from jungles surrounding the Ho Chi Minh Trail to the city streets of Hue, players will choose from two well-equipped forces, the United States or the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and Vietcong. Yep, Vietnam is the current 'in thing' for military shooters... Add Op Flashpoint 2 to that list as well... icon_lol.gif

Chrome shots/info [9:01:16 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Hanna from TechLand sent some details (and some pics) about their Chrome MP map entitled "Borderland". Here's the goods:
As you can read in the description provided by the game makers, Chrome offers very extensive maps in the single player mode. But it is obvious that most of the players can’t wait to connect to the game server and face live opponents. Well, we have prepared a nice and interesting surprise for those of you who can’t wait – views from a beautifully embellished map – Borderland, where players will fight in everglades heavily covered with plant life. This map is created in the Domination mode, which means controlling checkpoints with flags. Shrubs, bushes and enormous trees growing in the middle of the everglades create a unique atmosphere of the game.

Soldner E3 Video [10:20:24 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (2)
It's not very long (about 5 Megs), but it definitely gives some idea of what the game will look like: BoneRattler's Mirror, Pong2CS's Mirror, 7th Cavalry Regiment's Mirror, and BoneRattler's Mirror for an .avi version.

1st Scrap in the Scrub OFP Lan Party [9:56:14 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (0)
Ever wanted to try out Operation Flashpoint: Resistance using a high-end client on a 23-system Local Area Network (LAN)? Well, I'm currently working with the new Melbourne, Florida location of PC Gaming Arena to host the first "Scrap in the Scrub" some time during one of the latter weekends of July, this year. (If it does well, it may be hosted more often.) Join the YahooGroup to stay informed of developments.

DF:BHD ex-pack announced [4:23:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw via Blue's News that NovaLogic has announced an expansion pack for Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, entitled Team Sabre, set for release Fall 2003. Missions will take place "deep into the jungles of Colombia in search of drug lords, then on to battle terrorist factions in and around Iran's island oilfields." Blue's also has a batch of screenshots from it as well.

I *just* finished BHD last night as a matter of fact, so this comes as good timing. BHD wasn't a bad little game, but it had some faults.. My 2 main complaints being the laggy mouse aiming when you neared (or entered) buildings (on my P4-2000, 768 MB, GF3 64 MB..), and some missions were so heavily scripted that it basically came down to trial & error as how to win them. You wound up replaying the same sequences 5 or 6 times in a row until you figured out the right path to succeed. Not fun, and not at all tactical. Some of the other mission designs were quite good tho.. AI of course was either really dumb, or had pin-point aim, seemingly at random, and that made things frustrating as well.

nFusion Interview [2:50:12 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The bad boys at Urban Informer sent word that they have posted an interview with nFusion Interactive's Jason Zisk, where they cover a few of the games on nFusion's resume, such as Line of Sight: Vietnam, and of course Deadly Dozen 1 & 2. Here's a sample Q & A:
SJ: I love the claustrophobic feeling of the jungle that you captured in the game. What would you say you are most proud of with LOS?

JZ:
Without question the jungle is our biggest achievement. The reason it looks as good as it does is because of an artist who is obsessed with making “the perfect jungle”, and me, the lowly graphics programming slave, tasked with getting those thousands of trees to render fast and look pretty. It’s really cool to see so many reviews of our little game that say we have the best jungle of any game. Being a budget title and having the “best” of something is pretty rare. [...]
Good stuff, def check out the rest.
