GameSpy Reviews Joint Operations [18:11:08 EDT] by ~~ Uziyahu   Comments (1)
GameSpy has a favourable review of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising, without making the mistake of looking at the game through Rose-colored glasses. The vehicle integration adds handsomely to the teamwork but the vehicle physics provides some of the game's most glaring glitches. Overall, they're calling it one of the best multiplayer combat experiences recently released.

H&D 2: Sabre Squadron interview [13:24:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (2)
Computer & Video Games has posted an interview with Illusion Softworks' team lead Alexander Sila, where he discusses the upcoming H&D 2 ex-pack, Sabre Squadron. Here's the $64,000 question:
What's the situation with co-op play? Is this still going to be limited to the expansion pack or are you now also planning to add it to the original Hidden & Dangerous 2 campaign?

Sila:
All nine missions from Sabre Squadron will be playable in co-operative multiplay, but co-op won't be supported for original H&D 2 maps. This may change in the future.
So we get co-op in the new missions at least. Wish there were more than 9 missions, but I guess we have to take what we can get.

The game is set for an October release.

Conflict: Vietnam preview [15:11:54 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
In more Vietnam shooter news, C&VG has posted a preview of SCi and Pivotal Games' upcoming game, Conflict: Vietnam, the third in their series of Conflict.. games. Here's a snip to get ya going:
When the action hits, it really does hit with ferocity and intensity, combat certainly more visceral in Vietnam than in Desert Storm and Desert Storm II. Firefights are undoubtedly embellished by Pivotal's fleshing out of the characters, dialogue definitely adding a plus in the immersion factor stakes. The small touch of shellshock effects - blurred vision causing disorientation - is a further bonus, as are tracer rounds which whiz back and forth and an ability to use an 'iron sights' view with weapons.

  • Men of Valor interview [14:57:22 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys at FileFront have posted an interview with 2015's Director of Development, John Whitmore, where they discuss Men of Valor: Vietnam. Here's some of the juice:
Q: Since Men of Valor is based of off the Vietnam War, should players expect to see that same form of Guerrilla Warfare being used by the AI during the single player campaigns?

    A:
Yes. Combat often develops quickly as the result of an ambush, where Viet Cong will come pouring out of the treeline from multiple directions to envelop the player’s squad. The jungles we have created are very dense with foliage, and the VC can be well camouflaged, so the player will need to get to cover, determine where the enemy is, and choose a direction of engagement under intense fire, much as in a real ambush situation. The Viet Cong will often perform feigned retreats when the situation begins to go against them, hoping to draw the player into a pre-established kill zone – players need to pursue carefully or wind up in a trap.
    Sounding good indeed.

SWAT 4 interview [20:32:59 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Wow, news!! icon_eek.gif (Oh, by the way, I swapped out the bad memory in the server, so the site should be stable again..)

The guys at HomeLAN Fed have posted a short interview with SWAT 4 associate producer Rob Irving. Here's some clippage:
HomeLAN - When the time came to start thinking about a new PC based SWAT game, what were the publisher's main goals?

    Rob Irving -
Our primary goal was to create a worthy successor to SWAT 3 after a long absence in the marketplace. To make the game that we wanted, we started with all of the best features from the previous game, and improved the graphics, the AI, and the authenticity of the SWAT tactics used in the game.
The game is set to ship in 2005.

*Downtime.. [21:48:40 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (1)
Bleh! Sorry for the down time. I was away on a business trip and didn't have time to look at the site..

Seems the server is having some kind of hardware problem that I haven't been able to track down yet, as I keep getting lock-ups and task failures on the server.

I'm working on fixing the problem.. Stay tuned!

[Update]: Ok, I found out its a memory problem. I'll have to get some new DIMMS and swap out the ones in there..
