Hostile Intent interview [22:18:43 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The boys over at GibMe.com sent word that they've posted an interview with the team working on Hostile Intent (formerly known as The Sherman Project), the R6-like mod for Half-Life. Here's how they start it off:
The Hostile Intent (former known as The Sherman Project) team has been hibernating for some time; in fact the mod was as good as dead (it was dead actually). Lately our mailbox has been filled with news from Milenko considering the "reanimation" of Hostile Intent (from now on HI) filled with news, new AVI's created and other proof that this mod was alive and kicking once more.

The team is working hard on the project; actually they are giving 150% to the project. Many new talented people have teamed up along with some of the old ones to make this project a reality.

IGI Q&A [21:20:08 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The boys at ProjectIGI.com have posted a Q & A with Innerloop's Andrew Wensley, project lead on Project IGI / I'm Going In. Here's a sample Q&A for ya:
Helza: What kind of levels can you expect? (landscape) and do levels include water in which you can swim? (i love water can't help it)

Andrew Wensley: Levels will be set in early morning, evening, in both snowy, moutainous and in green rolling hills. The terrain is really open, with massive valleys, smooth plateaus and rough hillsides. You will move through military airbases, the HQ of a rapid reaction force (tanks, mechanized infantry and choppers), infiltrate border crossings, sneak through nuclear reactors, break into and out of a prison. I hope you'll enjoy what we've got in store for you.
Whoop!

H&D 2 Screenshots [16:38:24 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
Well the flood gates have opened for H&D 2. GA-Strategy posted 2 brand new screenshots of H&D 2. One even appears to be on a submarine. Das Boot !!

Thanks BluesNews and thank you Illusion for not trying to change history like some developers.

Deta Force: LW Interview [16:19:23 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (1)
Stomped posted a interview with Novalogic regarding DeltaForce: Land Warrior.  This time around they will be using full 3D hardware to draw voxels. Even the voodoo 2 will be supported this time around. Here's a snip:
Stomped: The "Land Warrior" of the game's title refers to the U.S. Army's near future program for the foot soldier. What kinds of references and sources were used to recreate the program for the game?

Eckhart: Since our subsidiary, NovaLogic Systems, is adapting Delta Force 2 as a training aid for the real Land Warrior system, we've been lucky enough to have access to some of the military personnel who help run the program, and that's given us a better understanding of the system.

WWII Online [6:14:15 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
I was browsing the forums of WWII Online (massive multiplayer simulation) and found a post from one of the developers saying there will be no SS Uniforms or swastikas in the game. While I don't agree what the Nazis stood for, how can you have a historical WWII simulation and not have Nazis!!

Covert Ops interview [6:42:24 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
RogueSpear.org (betcha ya can't figure out their URL ) has posted an interview with Magic Lantern's Paul Schuytema regarding the research that went into RedStorm's Covert Operations Essentials. Here's a snip:
How will this project appeal to both existing Rainbow Six fans and to those who are unfamiliar with the franchise?

Rainbow fans thirst for knowledge-they want their experience to be as fully realized as possible, and COE will provide them with information and a new gameplay experience that will propel them even deeper into the “you are there” CT experience. Players who have not yet experienced the thrill of Rainbow or Rogue will find this a great “entry vehicle” via the training and new Rogue Spear missions. But COE has lots to offer those who aren’t interested in the first-person game experience at all-the content of COE will engage and challenge inquiring minds and will most certainly provide some information that is impossible to get otherwise.
Thanks BluesNews.

New IGI movie [5:52:22 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Eidos has put up a new movie showing off some action from Innerloop's upcoming game, Project IGI / I'm Going In. The MOV file is 8.25 MB, and lasts for about 39 seconds. There's no sound, but the gameplay footage is def worth a look! The more I see of this game, the more I like.

[Update 20:05]: Since the link doesn't work anymore, I've put a local copy online here. Hit the new IGI files section to grab the file.

More Op Bravo pics [16:42:04 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Ga-Source has also posted some Operation Bravo pics that they received from publisher Ripcord Games. (They really look like 'regular' Spec Ops 2 pics to me tho..) GA-Source mentions that the ex-pack will be free to DL next month to coincide with the release of Spec Ops Platinum.

Project IGI shots [16:32:07 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GA-Source has posted 4 new pics of Innerloop's Project IGI / I'm Going In, the thinker-shooter to be published by Eidos. The game is on track for a Q3 2000 release. Here's a bit on how GA-Source describes the game:
I'm Going In is the first military stealth shooter to stress cunning and covertness over firepower. Use all the latest spy equipment and weapons to get the job done without detection. Battle your way through Eastern Europe in pursuit of a homicidal ex-Russian Colonel bent on turning Europe into a radioactive wasteland. An adrenaline producing plot keeps you glued to your mouse as you go behind enemy lines to save the world from nuclear terror.
Good stuf as always..

Mod News [23:51:12 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
A Half-Life MOD I was really looking forward to called The Sherman Project (realistic military type) has died. It was basically Rainbow 6 meets Half-Life, and even featured maps from Rainbow 6 converted into Half-Life. The original team has stopped all work and has passed it over to a new team. The MOD has been rename to Hostile Intent. Good news is all the character models, sounds, and maps are still intact.  The new team even has a early alpha up and running. They should have a new site up with more info soon.

H&D 2 Screenshots Cont.. [5:35:11 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
Bonusweb sends word that they have posted a English page with the H&D 2 screenshots I posted about early. Here's a snip:
Now lets talk with the graphic people. "Graphics of Hidden & Dangerous 2 will be much better than of its predecessor," says Peter Kubek, the lead 3D graphic. This is clear, but more interesting is, how it should be reached. "Thanks to our programmers, Insanity 2 is about 4 times faster than Insanity 1, so we can make use of it and create more detailed and smoother graphics and nicer shadows,"
As you know, the release date has been pushed back in favor of Illusions other game Mafia. In a recent interview on Gamer's Central Dan Vavra of Illusion mentioned that Mafia will not use the same engine as H&D 2 after all and a totally new engine is in the works.

In other H&D news:
The Dreamcast version of H&D is set to be released August 1 (next week) and even a Playstation (yes PSX 1) version is in the works and will retail for 9.99$

H&D 2 Screenshots [18:10:08 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
BonusWeb (Czech) posted the 1st screenshots of Hidden & Dangerous 2. The page is in Czech but my good friend Ojokoltsa was able to translate the important stuff.
H&D 2 will use a whole new graphic engine and due to that fact the game will not only look much better but also be four times faster. It will be much more detailed, show accurate shadows and will come with new crash effects.

They will use a new physic of bodies, morphing and stuff. So that means that you will now be able to shoot through walls, ect. and that you can destroy stuff in your environment. The game will also feature state of the art motion capturing.

Rainbow 6 mod theft? [1:58:15 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Uziyahu from RAINBOWvox sends word of an article he's posted on 'mod theft' in the Rainbow Six community. Here's an el' snippo:
Is mod-copying (or mod-inspiration) something for which to apologize, genuflect, and kowtow [huh?! - Rush] endlessly? Not at all. In my well-supported opinion, all cries of "mod-theft" are baseless and unsupported. I ask you, if it is illegal (or, if nothing else, a violation of Red Storm Entertainment's intellectual property rights) to mod the game Rogue Spear, in the first place, is modding a mod of the game Rogue Spear a violation of the first modder's rights or intellectual property?

More DF:LW shots [20:27:58 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Gamecenter has gotten their hands on some cool new Delta Force: Land Warrior shots (the first 5 are new..) Here's a snip on how GameCenter describes the title:
The same long-range outdoor encounters that were such a prominent feature of the first two Delta Force titles will be available in the new game, so players can see and engage enemy soldiers at distances of 1,000 meters or more. And though the strengths of the voxel-based engines that drove the first two games will be retained in the third game, players can expect to see a whole new game driven by an all-new 3D engine.
Def check out the shots!

[Update]: Found 2 more DF:LW shots at Multiplayer.it. The site is in Itailian, but the pics aren't. One's new, one's the same as was posted yesterday on CGO. Scroll down on their main news page to view them.

DF:LW preview [18:06:13 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
CGO has put up a preview of NovaLogic's upcoming game, Delta Force: Land Warrior with 3 new screenshots of the Egyptian level in action. Here's a snip of some of the features:
NovaLogic also promises to deliver a cohesive, character-driven story based on the exploits of a squad of five veteran Delta Force troopers (you will get to control each of the five main characters in turn throughout the game). Mission types will include hostage rescues, sabotage, and direct assault on terrorist compounds. A variety of new weapons and equipment will be featured in the game, including high-tech items from the Army's next-generation Land Warrior program such as integrated video sights, head-mounted displays, laser range finders, and GPS navigation. NovaLogic's "inside link" with the military is based on a recent contract to modify Delta Force 2 for use in the Land Warrior program (as a training aid). And of course there'll be the usual multiplayer support on NovaWorld.

Sounding good to me..

Devil's Bridge review [17:57:21 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Saw over at BluesNews that The Wargamer has put up a review of IllusionSoft's Devil's Bridge, which is the stand-alone 'expansion pack' for the original Hidden & Dangerous. Here's a snip on the gameplay:
When it comes to gameplay, Devil's Bridge seems to have built upon all the strengths of Hidden and Dangerous. Play is quite varied; the first campaign involves attacking a German base and stealing an experimental bomber, the second has layers traipsing around the snowy forests of the Ardennes, and the third sends the SAS to take on communists who are hiding out in ancient Greek ruins.

The levels are also large and contain many objectives. The first mission involves ambushing a German counterintelligence officer, assuming his identity, infiltrating a German base, having two men crawl through the sewer system, blowing up several enemy fighters, rescuing a spy, and lastly stealing a bomber.
Good stuff. Be sure to check out the rest of the review..

FlashPoint 1985 Updates [17:21:22 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
On the heels of the last Flashpoint unit of the week comes the Russian Mi-17 helicopter. The video shows a complete day cycle in time lapse.  The helicopter was the work horse of the Soviet army along with more then 27 other countries. The Mi-17 can carry up to 30 troops. I look forward to shooting down this helicopter when its full of troops. 30 frags with 1 shot

Deta Force: Land Warrior Interview [1:55:21 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
The Adrenaline Vault posted a Q&A session with Novalogic regarding DeltaForce: Land Warrior. There are some new screenshots as well.
Tell us about some of the new weapons and the things Delta Force soldiers will be able to do with them.

At the moment, the plan is to replace the standard M-4 carbine-grenade launcher combo with the Objective Individual Combat Weapon, a weapon scheme being designed to replace the M-4 and M-16. It consists of a 5.56mm rifle and a 20mm grenade launcher. It also features an electro-optical sight with infrared for night operation and an integrated laser range finder.

The team is also considering a silenced PSG-1 sniper rifle, the AK-47, the Calico submachine gun--which is an SMG with a long magazine on top that carries a whopping 100 rounds of 9mm--a Pancor automatic shotgun, a MM-1 semi-automatic 40mm grenade launcher, an AT-4, and an FN Mag 7 7.62mm light machine gun. We might incorporate more new weapons, but these are the current safe bets. And of course we will have some returning favorites, such as the silenced SOCOM .45 pistol, the M4-Shotgun combo and the MP5SD suppressed submachine gun.

We are also adding the ability to drop the primary weapon and pick up another one in the field. You still will not be able to haul an unrealistic load of ordinance as in a lot of shooters, but gamers will not be limited to what they start the mission with. For instance, if the sniper decides he needs to close in on an opponent and do some wholesale damage, he will be able to drop his PSG-1 and grab an AK-47 from a fallen terrorist.
My voodoo card would like to give a big hug to novalogic for taking the game to "3D acceleration" better late then never.

Official IGI website updates [17:42:08 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Eidos' official IGI website has been updated finally. The French & German links for the previous flash intro now work. Currently, the English link goes nowhere, but the British link now goes to a new page on the Eidos UK website chock full of IGI goodness. There are new sections for story, features, diary, downloads, screens, and press. The flash-based site is a bit tough to navigate, but there's plenty of great IGI info to check out. Especially, check out the features section..

Thanks to Helza at ProjectIGI.com for the heads up!

Another IGI preview [20:27:12 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Speaking of IGI, 3DActionPlanet has put up a first look at Innerloop's thinker-shooter I'm Going In. Woo, they even mention Spec Ops' influence and bemoan the 'CAD program' that came with Rainbow Six, so ya know these guys know the genre. Here's a snip on the gameplay:
To make things a bit more interesting, gameplay in I'm Going In isn't just 'go in, kill guy, get out'. Each of your missions will have a primary objective, but your objectives will almost always change, during the mission. For instance, you might be directed to rescue a captured officer, but during mid-mission, HQ will tell you that he has been moved, within the compound. You'll have to be on your toes, and ready for anything.
Sounds just like my kind of game. Can't wait!

IGI at AVault [20:17:28 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Avault has put up a small preview and 4 shots of Innerloop's Project IGI / I'm Going In. Here's the goods:
The four exclusive screenshots below detail one of the more rugged summons: Infiltrate a fortified Russian Base, disable their automatic defenses and get the goods. I'm Going In is a stealth shooter that will stress cunning and covertness over firepower. People will use the latest espionage equipment and weapons to get the job done without detection. The plot details a battle through Eastern Europe to stop a homicidal ex-Russian Colonel bent on turning Europe into a radioactive wasteland.

Features include:

bullet Use stealth and guile to infiltrate the toughest installations in Europe
bullet Abilities that include stealing, computer access, sabotage and reconnaissance
bullet Computer-controlled enemies that use actual militaristic tactics
bullet Air assaults that can be called through a communication PDA
bullet Equipment that includes latest NATO espionage gear
bullet Assault weapons to disable surveillance, bomb shelters, armored carriers and gunships

Ok, the pics aren't new or exclusive, and there's not much new info, but hey, any news is good news.

Anyway... PC.IGN has posted 4 new Project IGI shots for your viewing enjoyment.

New IGI shots! [20:26:15 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Unlike the 'new' IGI shots other sites were reporting, these really are new. GameSpy has slapped up 9 new IGI screenshots for your viewing pleasure. Sweet as usual!

[Update]: GameCenter has also posted 8 screenshots that we've seen before (ok, shot 4 and 8 are new..), and a small blurb on the game. Here's a snip:
I'm Going In is a military stealth shooter, which means you might be spending a good deal of your game time thinking your way into and out of dangerous situations. This doesn't mean that the game will be boring, however, as you can expect constantly to be up against an enemy AI that will use actual military tactics to stop you from achieving your goals--and will shoot to kill if you are caught. You can also expect the enemy to show up in the form of bunkers, tanks, and killer gunships. If you're lucky, you'll actually get to call a napalm strike on the enemy using your PDA, but we're guessing you're going to have to do some serious sneaking and fighting in order to get to that point.
Not much new info, but the 2 new shots are cool.

DF:LW preview [16:09:19 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Speedy3d has popped up a preview of Novalogic's third Delta Force game, Delta Force: Land Warrior, along with some DF:LW pics that have been making the rounds. Here's a snip on the new game engine:
The new engine uses the latest in environmental technology to create a world almost as extensive as its voxel ancestors. Extensive or not, the improvement close up is colossal and you can see even the smallest details at a distance of 1,000 meters, quite a view. The actual viewing distance is likely to be somewhat more (3,000?), yet past 1,000 things are expected to get misty.

Shrapnel screenshot [15:44:21 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Ha, say that 3 times fast! Anyway, AVault has posted a totally wicked screenshot of Zombie's upcoming game Shrapnel.

Awesome Shrapnel shot

Shrapnel is being likened to HALO and Tribes 2.. Should be interesting..

H&D Action Pack review [15:12:29 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Not sure if this is new or not, but I saw via SimHQ that there is a review of the Hidden & Dangerous Action Pack (the original H&D, plus the Devil's Bridge add-on bundled in one package) over at The Wargamer.

Here's a snip on the eye and ear candy the game offers:
Hidden and Dangerous definitely excels in the graphics department. The trees look excellent, the water flows sweetly, and the buildings are well detailed. Furthermore, the different weather effects are beautiful to behold. This game really brings to life the tension involved in trying to cross a guarded bridge in the middle of a storm at night.

The special effects are also up to par. While the guns often sound more like toys than like real British weapons, the explosions seem very realistic. Running away from a train station as warning sirens blare and bombs fall is certainly a fantastic aural experience. The music also becomes suitably stirring when your troops approach an important objective.
Gotta admit, H&D had serious atmosphere... Once I'm done with my current DF2 craze (just finished the second campaign over the weekend, and made a good dent in the single missions), I def plan on getting back into H&D. I've yet to even start playing Devil's Bridge. I wanted to finish off the original H&D first before moving to the expansion pack. That reminds me, I still have to finish off the Eagle Watch ex-pack for Rainbow Six too. Too many games, too little time!

FlashPoint 1985 Updates [17:48:02 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
The official FlashPoint 1985 site was updated with a new unit of the week featuring the Ural 376 cargo truck. This is the first video to show some of the action (firefights) you will encounter in the game.

Bohemia Interactive also put some some technical info on AI used in the game.
Basic element of AI is adequate reaction on surrounding process. By scripting the missions you enter a very few things in advance - you enter only route where goes the guard, place where wil wait the back-up and the rest is on the intelligence of soldiers. So the guard walk on the route, looking around, checking suspicious places and if they appear the enemy, are aim to call back up and trying to destroy him. If they aren´t able to destroy him, they run away. If soldiers are in a group, they co- ordinate their attack. Whilst someone shoot the enemy, others hide themself in the growth, trying to get hidden near to a enemy. But AI soldiers do a mistakes, just like normal people. They don´t shoot always correctly. When you throw between them a grenade, they don´t know from where it comes. If is their enemy markedly better they can panic and run away. If you wound them, they trying to get help.

Ripcord on Shrapnel [6:38:49 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The Ripcord Games website has gotten a new design, and also has some info on Zombie's upcoming game, Shrapnel (which the page still calls MOUT 2025.. ) Here's a snip on the gameplay:
[Shrapnel] is set in the western United States - Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Alaska. Cliff faces will act as a natural boundary to keep Players inside the levels. The urban levels - occupied Salt Lake City, with a "Big Brother is Watching You" art direction, will use buildings to wall off the levels. The Player attacks the NCB firebases to collect weapons and equipment as he advances through the game. Levels are laid out in linear increasing difficulty that match the hierarchy of weapons and pickups. As the player advances through levels, he is also moving through the backstory - picking up close quarter weapons in the bombed out and occupied urban levels; then attacking the outlying firebases for ranging weapons; and finally attacking NCB strongholds to pickup crew served weapons and fast attack vehicles.
Be sure to check out the rest as there's more great info to be found.

RS: UO review [21:19:38 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Prob the last one we'll see, but Skary's Extreme has posted a review of RedStorm's Rogue Spear: Urban Operations. They seemed pretty hard on it, but gave it a 9 overall. Here's a snip from the conclusion:
There's still room for improvement in the Rainbow Six line. We'd like to see more control over squads, the addition of formations, increased personality in the operatives, better operative adaptability to dynamic situations, support for the prone position, and still more weapons and gadgets (mines would have been useful on those Defend missions!). For now, Urban Operations makes Rogue Spear hard to take off the hard drive by increasing the appeal of both the solitaire and multiplayer modes. That's exactly what a good expansion pack should do.

Recording DF2 games [21:05:43 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Delta-Force2.com has posted word on how to record gameplay movies while you play Delta Force 2. Here's the scoop:
Just in case you guys are not aware, there is a way to record demos in DF2 single player missions. All you need to do is start df2.exe with /r parameter.

Then go to any single player mission and start playing it. When you are done, or dead just exit the mission. Exit the game and in the DF2 folder you will find a file with the extension .dfr. That is your movie.

To play it, just launch DF2 with parameter /p followed by the .dfr file-name. Then launch *any* singleplayer mission and watch the demo playback.

Summary:
df2.exe /r to record
df2.exe /p xxxxxx.dfr to playback
Cool deal..

Delta Force review [18:14:03 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Yep, Tanx sends word that Battle-Fields has posted a review of Delta Force, as in the original Delta Force. Here's a supplied clip:
Before you begin a mission you receive a short brief and you can also change your weaponry. Novalogic have provided quite an arsenal, the M4, Barrett Light 50. Calibre sniper rifle, H&K MP5 to name a few. You also could choose one of two sidearms and an item of secondary equipment (Satchel charges, Claymores, LAWs, Extra Ammo). This is a nice feature that has continued to Delta Force 2. Although they showed a map of the area in which you would be operating you couldn't amend waypoints or AI team member loadouts, in fact you have no control over anyone else and believe me the AI is dumb! This is one of the major flaws in Delta Force, both your friendly and enemy AI are completely thick. In some cases you could walk right up to the enemy and they wouldn't react until you fired.
Ahh, the memories.. But to be fair, I do remember seeing the enemy drop prone after being fired upon, wherein they looked like other dead bodies on the ground so you ignore them, then they pop up and kill your ass as you walk up to them!

DF: Land Warrior shots [15:40:01 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Morgo, webmaster from Land-Warrior.com sent word that they've posted 5 new in-game screenshots of Novalogic's upcoming game, Delta Force: Land Warrior.

5 new DF: LW shots

Here's what Morgo had to say about the shots:
These screenshots show a hugely improved graphics engine, that cleverly combines a high resolution polygon engine with the patented Voxelspace engine. This allows Land-Warrior to offer huge outdoor environments to battle over, whilst still having the capability to offer great, graphically smooth and fast, indoors CQB. Fans of all tactical operations simulations should be getting hyped up over this game and its potential!
I've recently been playing DF2, and while I love the huge rolling outdoor terrain, they really have to speed the game up. It's pretty sad when the single player version of the game has lag!!

Congrats on a great showing for the PSX!

Off Topic: HALO and MGS2 [10:26:51 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Got two slightly off topic news items to mention, but they're both pretty damn cool!

1) CGO has posted an excellent preview of HALO, with some killer screenshots. If you haven't seen the 150 MB E3 movie yet, pick up the August issue of PC Gamer to get it on CD.

2) Daily Radar has posted a KILLER movie of Metal Gear Solid 2. Its about 87 MB, but if ya have the bandwidth, it's a must see! I'm eagerly awaiting the PC-port of MGS, so hopefully Microsoft will do a PC-port of MGS2 as well!

IGI preview [9:59:48 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Sharky's Extreme has put up a brief preview of Innerloop's I'm Going In. Here's the meat of it:
I'm Going In pits you as a lone spy against a rogue Russian Colonel in a showdown to stop nuclear disaster in Europe. Among the tasks you'll perform are infiltration, computer hacking, sabotage, and theft. Although you're alone on the mission, you'll have access to NATO weapons and spy gadgets, and be able to call in air strikes via your Personal Digital Assistant. According to Eidos, I'm Going In will place emphasis on stealth over shooting, making it seem like a modern day version of Thief. But action fans shouldn't worry about pyrotechnics; from the screen shots we get the idea there will be plenty of shooting to do.
Sounds like a winner to me! There are 4 screenshots along with it as well, but we've seen them all before..

VietNam: Black Ops review [21:23:34 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Avault has kicked up a review of ValuSoft's VietNam: Black Ops, along with some nice screenshots of the game in action. Here's a clip from the review:
Despite being faced with an enemy who has the advantage both in numbers and location, all is not lost; you have immediate access to any weapon held by a downed foe, which can also be used to replenish your ammunition. As you get further away from your cell and closer to your goal, you'll find equipment of increasing lethality and stopping power, thereby providing a relatively natural progression. For instance, you're initially defenseless as you stumble from your newly opened cell, but you can find a knife and an AK-47 or two on the bodies of nearby air raid victims. Eventually, you'll come across other genre standards, such as an M16 Assault Rifle, an M60 Machinegun, a grenade launcher, a sniper rifle, as well as a light anti-tank weapon.

More Op Bravo shots [15:50:11 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Avault has also scored 4 new shots (well, 3 really, the last one is the same as mine.. ) of Operation Bravo, the expansion pack for Spec Ops 2 that will also be bundled with Spec Ops Platinum. Here's what Avault said about Spec Ops Platinum:
The mega-bundle includes the original Spec Ops 1, the multi-person expansion called Spec Ops Ranger Team Bravo, Spec Ops 2: Green Berrets, and the Spec Ops 2 expansion with 25 new levels, new multi-person game modes, enhanced AI, better graphics and more. Also included will be a Spec Ops game guide. The bundle should reach stores sometime in August.
I was unaware that Platinum would contain SO1, RTB, SO2, the strategy guide and the Op Bravo ex-pack! Def an all-in-one Spec Ops package!

More on Shrapnel [15:15:35 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Avault has further news on the M.O.U.T 2025 name change to Shrapnel.. Here's a snip:
M.O.U.T. 2025 was the heir apparent to the Spec Ops throne, a futuristic squad-based shooter based on a real life militaristic program that suits soldiers up in high-tech outfits complete with GPS positioning and helmets with miniature HUDs. It was going to be a solo and online game focused on strategic action and featuring lots of elaborate computerized weapons. Zombie has also been creating a 3D shooter in which people control a large mechanical arachnid with a Godzilla thing going--it was called Shrapnel. The good news is Zombie is still planning to create both games. However, M.O.U.T. 2025 has been granted the name of its sibling product, a new plot and more ambitious game mechanics. The title once called Shrapnel no longer has a name--for the moment.
So there ya go, MOUT becomes Shrapnel, and Shrapnel will get a new name. Check out the rest of the article as there's lots of good info in there.

FlashPoint screenies [3:34:19 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC Gameworld has posted 3 screenshots of Bohemia Interactive's upcoming game, Flash Point 1985: Status Quo.
Flash Point: 1985 Status Quo is not your run of the mill first-person shooter, but promises more in-depth gameplay and tactical thinking. It will also feature reality-based gameplay to give gamers a new challenge in terms of achieving their objectives using thought rather than just fire-power.
Good stuff, check it out!

MOUT 2025 becomes Shrapnel? [3:17:04 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GA-Source is reporting that Zombie's upcoming LithTech-powered game M.O.U.T. 2025 has been renamed to Shrapnel. Here's the skinny as posted by GA-Source:
GA-Source has learned that Ripcord Games' upcoming LithTech-powered futuristic shooter, M.O.U.T. 2025, will now be known as "Shrapnel." Originally titled M.O.U.T 2025 (Military Operations in Urban Terrain), Executive Producer John Williamson has just informed GA-Source that the game will now be simply known as "Shrapnel" and is scheduled to ship in November of 2000 for PC and DC.
Hmm, I was always under the impression the Shrapnel was to be a separate product. I'll fire off some email to my contact at Zombie and try to get the scoop..

COE screens & interview [19:05:49 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
SimHQ has put up an interview with RSE's Kevin Perry, and some nice new Covert Ops screenshots to go along with it. Here's something to get ya going:
SimHQ: Please tell us a little about the new levels being included.

KP: The levels in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Covert Ops Essentials will be based on the same code used to create Urban Ops. Covert Ops has nine new missions for veterans and novices alike, ranging from simple covert operations training missions (busting a meth lab in a trailer park) to no-holds-barred RAINBOW action (tracking a downed airplane through mountainous jungle terrain under enemy fire). This is a stand-alone CD--the player need not have purchased Rogue Spear or Rainbow Six to play the missions.
They also have some details on the release date for COE being pushed back to August 29th. Check out the SimHQ main page for that.

M.O.U.T. 2025 Preview [22:21:08 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
SegaWeb posted a preview of M.O.U.T. 2025 (Dreamcast version) with 8 new screenshots. As you know there is a PC version in the works too.
M.O.U.T. 2025 (Military Operations in Urban Terrain set in the year 2025), brought to us by Ripcord and Zombie, puts you in command of a group of highly-trained counter-terrorism specialists charged with defending the United States from attack from within. Missions are set in four different types of locales - desert, forest, industrial urban, and large city - and promises brutally intelligent enemy AI who respond to threats that are seen and heard. The bad guys will even get suspicious and raise the alarm if they find your footprints or what's left of one their buddies after running into you and your squad of hardasses.
(I wonder what ever happened to Spec Ops 3: Navy Seals)

FireArms Update [19:53:35 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
My favorite MOD (FireArms for Half-Life) is getting a major update today. The new version will include a Skill system. As you progress in rank you can earn different skills. Like being able to call for artillery strikes or Field Medicine.
Artillery Marker - Places an artillery marker in front of you. Artillery markers can only be placed outside. When you place an artillery marker, artillery fire can therefore be directed to that location by mortarmen on your team.  Markers are cruicial to inform others that the area is targeted for artillery fire.

Request Artillery Fire - Informs mortarmen on your team that ou want artillery fire to be directed at your marker immediatly
More then 8 new maps will also be included. Even a Normandy map.

More COE stuff [18:21:10 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Two more items of interest on the Covert Ops front.

1) Rogue Spear Database has gotten word that RSE has pushed the release date of Covert Ops back to August 29th. Bummer.

2) Rogue Spear Retreat has 2 new COE screenshots also from the junkyard and hospital levels.

Another COE interview [15:31:22 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys over at TacSim have scored an interview with Kevin Perry, the executive producer of COE. Great stuff; check it:
TS: What has been done to balance the learning and training with fun?

KP: The balance is perfect, because the player is allowed to choose exactly what he or she wants. If the player doesn't want to bother with any training at all, there is no reason to install the Training CD. Conversely, if an armchair special forces fanatic can't be bothered with the intricacies of a squad-based realistic shooter, he or she need not ever install the Mission CD.

Since most people will fall between these two extremes, Covert Ops can easily accommodate their needs. Covert Ops is essentially two separate approaches to the same topic in on box.

FlashPoint 1985 Screenshots [5:49:22 EDT] by ~~ AndOne   Comments (0)
GA-Strategy posted 3 new FlashPoint 1985 screenshots. Bohemia Interactive has set no release date but you can expect an official announcement this month. (Can you say publisher?)

Flash Point: 1985 Status Quo is a tactical combat action wargame that promises an unprecedented freedom of action integrating command of large squads and use of any available vehicles for total immersion. Player can also experience the best cold war military equipment - infantry, mobile, armor and aircraft - in large detailed 3D environments.

Urban Ops review [18:40:04 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Saw over at Bluesnews that Electric Playground has put up a review of RSE's Urban Ops, complete with screenshots of the game in action and the menus as well. Here's a snip to start ya off:
The enhanced variety is not limited to the weapons and settings here; the terrorists have become equally diverse, instead of relying on stereotypes. In one setting, the terrorists might have a Middle Eastern appearance, while in the next mission; you might see a few gangsters with black suits and sunglasses like they just stepped out of the film Heat! Not stopping with their appearance, Red Storm has given the terrorists more skills and has better equipped this element for their cause. Players will have to deal with hidden snipers and highly armed and well-guarded enemies.

SWAT3 news [15:11:52 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
EvilAvatar.com has the scoop on the latest news regarding Sierra's SWAT3. Here's the rip:
Sierra Studios PR Coordinator Kellie Hobin sends along word that Sierra's upcoming tactical combat shooter, SWAT3: Elite Edition (Formerly Battle Plan) will not feature a dedicated client/server architecture for multiplayer gaming.
The word from the Dev team on dedicated servers is that there won't be one for SWAT 3, everything is done client side. The multiplayer will be played over WON.net/Flipside.com.
Def a big bummer not having dedicated servers..

COE interview [15:00:02 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GamersEd has put up an interview with Kevin Perry, executive producer for Covert Ops. Here's a sample Q & A:
4) Are we going to see a Capture The Flag mode in Covert Ops, or any other new play modes?

There are no new play modes, but both the Zone and MPlayer will have special rooms set aside for the unique missions of Covert Ops. All nine missions are fully single and multi-player capable.

H&D review [17:36:23 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Yep, the guys over at FragPipe have posted a review of IllusionSoft's Hidden & Dangerous. Here's the usual snip on the game's cool missions:
One great thing about this game is the difference between the campaigns, in the first one, its rescue the hostages, but you have to find them first, another one it is blow up a dam, but not all goes to plan, another is to kill a head admiral guy, then to escape the pursing army. The difference between these campaigns can really be noticed in the environment. I’m sure you have played Goldeneye on N64, do you know the level “frigate”? Well, it’s a level on a ship, and everything is right. Everything is bright and pretty. Well, in Hidden & Dangerous there is a level on a battle ship, and the weather is terrible, its pouring rain, windy, the ship is on a terrible slant, is early evening, so the light is minimal, and its great!
Thanks BluesNews.

COE preview [16:01:23 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I must have missed this day-of, but Glide Underground has posted a preview of RedStorm's upcoming game, Covert Operations Essentials, complete with screenshots. Good read; here's a snip on what the game's all about:
Basically, Covert Operations Essentials is a game where players will start to train to become a true FBI soldier. What this means is that the game, which spans across two CDs, will have real footage of troops in action, weapons, tactics, and strategies used in the real field of counter-terrorism. Then, players will actually carry out such missions in real-life re-created situations using the Rogue Spear engine.

Everything that could be learned from the training missions will be carried throughout this game and tested on, including: when to use which weapon, how to travel, and when to do something and when not to.
