OFP review [18:57:10 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GamePlanet has reviewed Bohemia Interactive's / Codemasters' Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis, and awarded it a perfect 5 stars.

OFP review

Here's how they start it off:
UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN living under a rock, you will have heard about a first person shooter set during the Cold War, that has had shooter, tactical simulation and war game fans salivating and twitching their trigger fingers in anticipation for more than six months.

The game is Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. It's the work of a pair of Czech brothers at Bohemia Interactive Studios, and it is published by Codemasters. It was finally released a few short weeks ago.

And it is very, very good.
And it gets better from there. Def check this one out.

OFP patch/upgrade due soon [2:49:39 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Codemasters has released some info regarding the upcoming patch and upgrade(s) for Operation Flashpoint. Here's the rip:
Operation Flashpoint Upgrades Imminent

The first upgrades for Operation Flashpoint are now complete, and in the final phase of testing.

Improving many aspects of the game, offering such enhancements as accurate shadow-casting for weapons and improved aircraft handling, the first will be available for distribution later this week.

Following on from this, the second upgrade package will be released a few days later. This will contain new single and multi-player missions, a brand new weapon, and additional vehicles. Players will now be able to control both the Soviet SU-25 "Frogfoot" heavy bomber and the American M-163 "Vulcan" anti-aircraft defence vehicle. Infantry will also be able to engage their enemies with the "Kozlice" dual-barrel hunting rifle and shotgun.
The pacth could be here as soon as Wednesday, and the upgrade on Friday. Thanks VE and Coldwar for the news.

Myth2: Green Berets ships [14:12:20 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Talonsoft has issued a press release that announces Myth 2: Green Berets has shipped, and will be making it's way to stores shortly. Here's part of the PR:
Green Berets is a squad based tactical game set in the treacherous jungles of Southeast Asia. Plan your surgical strike and sneak deep behind enemy lines to attack your enemy head on in 10 dynamic missions through rice paddies, underground tunnels, and superbly detailed terrains.

Powered by the magnificent Myth II engine, stalk through dense jungles with M60's, grenades, med kits and radio equipment to call in awe-inspiring air assaults, engage the enemy in blinding firefights and obliterate enemy bases with intense explosions. Combat enemy snipers and mortar crews and secure landing zones with your crack team of M16 gunners, Huey helicopters, and special Heroes (over 18 units in all). Your objectives are clear, rescue POW's, locate downed pilots, sabotage communication towers, and seek and destroy the enemy.

OFP interview [18:12:52 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Operation-Flashpoink.dk has posted an interview with Codemaster's David Solari, senior marketing mgr. Here's one of the questions to start you off:
Ofp.dk: What kind of system will be available for monitoring Dedicated servers ? (ie. Like WON)

David: Operation Flashpoint is fully integrated with Gamespy Arcade. You'll be able to see a list of all avilable servers by using the Arcade software included on the Flashpoint disc.
Check out the rest..

Codename: Outbreak preview [11:35:12 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GamesDomain has popped up a preview of Codename: Outbreak, the near-future squad shooter formerly titled Venom.

Codename: Outbreak preview

Here's a snip on the gameplay:
Gameplay is more a sneak-em up than your standard frag-fest, with stealth paying far more dividends than running in guns blazing. Enemy AI is efficient to say the least - once you're spotted, watch your back, because NPCs aren't going to stand around waiting for you to shoot them. They're perfectly happy to attempt to outflank, ambush, chase, and outsnipe you and your hapless teammate. Unfortunately, the AI doesn't really extend to the aforementioned sidekick, who simply copies you, and obeys a very limited set of commands (cover me, stay here, attack, hold your fire), although you'll be glad of his covering fire in a tight spot.
From playing the demo, I had no problem with the buddy AI. If you give him the right commands, he'll def help you out during a mission.

Thanks again Blue's News.

OFP review [11:16:53 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Blue's News pointed me to a review (In German) of Bohemia Interactive's Operation Flashpoint, where it scores a 91% (Try BabelFish for a translation.)

OFP review

Here's a small snip via Babelfish's English translation:
In things depth is possible everything: Whether one storms now alone the village or goes along in team, is freely selectable - in the team one lives however longer...

Also many different weapons are available, sometimes can one even select, which one wants to have. There there is everything of the M60 mg over the AK 74 up to the M21 sniper rifle.

Global Ops preview [1:57:12 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Also from pc.ign is a preview of Global Operations, the LithTech based military shooter coming from Barking Dog Studios.

Global Ops preview

Here's a clip on the ballistics modeling:
Another nod to realism is the game's extremely complex ballistics model. All jargon and algorithms aside, it basically amounts to the ability to shoot through walls, ceilings, people, and other objects depending on your weapon, ammo, range, and angle of shot. For instance, you could use a high-powered rifle to go through two weak walls and a couple of guy's heads.
Nice, eh? Check out the rest for more..

BF: 1942 preview [1:43:04 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC.IGN has posted a preview of Digital Illusion CE's upcoming game, Battlefield: 1942.

BF: 1942 preview

Here's some info on the single-player portion of the game:
The single-player game will basically be unlocking mission after mission, Persson said. One single-player level will be Omaha Beach, and another may involve a French village you have to protect (if you're the Allies; if you're the Axis, you'll have to invade and take it over). There will be 16 levels, and you'll have to play the game from both sides (Axis and Allies) to beat it.
Sounds a lot like MoH, no? PC.IGN has the release date as Q1 2002, which means Gamespot must have been mistaken saying the game would be out in August 2001..

Screenshots galore! [17:58:34 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameSpot has posted an oodle of screenshots (which is more than a gaggle), from various games in the Electronic Arts stable. There are shots from Global Ops, Command and Conquer: Renegade, and Battlefield: 1942, plus screens and info on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.

They report BF:1942 is now scheduled for an August 2001 release, which is quite different from Q1 2002 as was previously reported. We'll have to keep an eye out on it..

[Update]: The official Global Ops page has been updated with new weapons renders of the Colt Anaconda and the FN P90. Give 'em a look!

R6: Black Thorn pics [1:43:28 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)

OFP preview [22:26:09 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC.IGN has popped up a preview of Codemasters' / Bohemia Interactive's Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis.

OFP preview

Here's how they close the article:
After playing this for the time I have, I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to that North American version with more multiplayer functionality. This game is perfect for it. I can already imagine some of the battles that will ensue with infantry, tanks, helicopters, transports, and all of that good stuff on the same field.
And if the latest info is correct, the U.S. release date is now August 28th, up from September 22nd.. Woo!

MoH movie [22:12:56 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
As usual for a Wednesday, the official Medal of Honor website has been updated with new goodies.

Today's update is a movie (Quicktime format, lo- and hi-res versions) from the Normandy invasion. Sweet stuff as usual..

OFP interview [12:00:49 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
HomeLAN has posted an interview with David Solari of Codemasters, where they talk all things OFP. Here's a sample Q&A:
HomeLAN - It's very unusual to have a high profile game like this not be sold first in the U.S. Why was the decision made to hold off on the U.S. release?

David Solari - We felt that it was really important to get the dedicated server support in for the US version. The US has a far larger online gaming community than Europe and therefore we wanted to offer the best gaming experience we could to that community.
It appears the U.S. release has also been moved up to August 28th, which is great news..

Ghost Recon preview [16:14:43 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Following yesterday's 'fanboy preview' (story), The Wargamer has posted a ("real"?) preview of Redstorm / UbiSoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (or, as I like to call it, Spec Ops 2001 )

Here's a bit of background info on the game:
At its very core, Ghost Recon is a military tactical-sim. The game is a significant departure from the theme of the Rainbow Six franchise in that it no longer focuses on close-quarters battle (CQB) environments in counter-terrorist missions. Instead, the team of heroes commanded by the player fights military engagements in huge, sprawling, open-air missions. There are only a few indoor operations; instead, missions occur in the vast forests of southern Russia. Although the assignments of the six-person squad are more akin to special forces operations, the title of the game is still relevant. Ghost Recon is a synonym for those special forces who attack their objectives with ghost-like stealthiness.
Lot's of great screenshots are included as well. I'm def looking forward to this one, as I like outdoor military action much more than mostly-indoor CQB action..

[Update]: There are 3 more screenshots over at Pie's tactics. Scroll to the bottom of the article for the links. Heh, nice angular-looking terrain there. But, no worse than H&D I suppose..

Vietnam2 review [20:15:27 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
GameOver has posted a review of ValuSoft's Vietnam 2: Special Assignment, chock full of pics of the game in action.

Vietnam2 review

Here's a snip of the action:
The basic story behind V2 allows for some inclusion of friendly AI. Perhaps the best levels are those where you stumble upon Flak's mercenary army and the Viet Cong battling it out. One such map is in a ruined city and the gameplay there lives up to ValuSoft's billing of "intense firefights". It is rather ironic though, that the Viet Cong soldiers here have no regard for each other's lives. Fairly often, I was able to convince rocket soldiers to launch into friendly troops standing in their way.

Ghost Recon preview [20:03:47 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Pie's Tactics has posted a preview of Redstorm's game in preogress, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, based on a visit to the Redstorm offices. Here's a snip of the goodness:
* 15 single player campaign missions will be included in the game. The final mission is set in a snow-covered Red Square.

* One of the most remarkable "atmospheric" improvements in Ghost Recon is the extensive use of communication by your AI teammates. They confirm your orders, announce when targets have been spotted, declare kills, and much more. It's difficult to explain, but I was particularly impressed with this new feature.

* In order to minimize the gameplay abuse of rocket launchers, each launcher will only carry 2 missiles and will not do so-called "splash damage."

* When your reticule is placed over a friendly, the character's name will appear above their head.
Lots more info in there, so check it out. No splash damage from rockets is lame tho. Thanks Blue's News.

Myth2: Green Berets gold [17:05:24 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Following yesterday's Myth2: Green Berets interview (story) comes news that the game has gone gold, and should be in stores by the end of July 2001.

Here's a snip from the PR:
Green Berets is a squad based tactical game set in the treacherous jungles of Southeast Asia. Plan your surgical strike and sneak deep behind enemy lines to attack your enemy head on in 10 dynamic missions through rice paddies, underground tunnels, and superbly detailed terrains.

Powered by the magnificent Myth II engine, stalk through dense jungles with M60's, grenades, med kits and radio equipment to call in awe-inspiring air assaults, engage the enemy in blinding firefights and obliterate enemy bases with intense explosions. Your objectives are clear, rescue POW's, locate downed pilots, sabotage communication towers, and seek and destroy the enemy.
Check out the rest of the PR over at Gone Gold for more info. For 20 bucks ya can't go wrong. The game will also ship with a map editor to let you create your own missions as well.

Thanks Blue's for the News..

Another OFP review [4:18:28 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw via VE that PixelKill has also posted a review of Op Flashpoint.

Another OFP review

Here's a snip to start ya off:
Even more so than in other realistic combat games like Rainbow Six and Delta Force you feel very, very vulnerable in Operation Flashpoint, just as I'm sure you do in real life warfare. You get to realise just how damn effective camouflage is when you get shot by a man that, a few seconds ago, looked very much like an innocuous shrub.
Overall tho, they didn't seem to like the game, which could be a first.. Go check out his misfortune.

OFP review [4:00:33 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC Gameplay has posted a short review of the current darling of the tactical shooter world, Bohemia Interactive's Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis, where it scores a solid 9 out of 10.

OFP review

Here's a snip on how the game should be played:
You must think carefully about every situation before charging into the hot-zone. You must run with your men, in formation, in short bursts. Shoot, run, then cover. Sit on a grassy knoll with autofire locked on and the enemy will soon pick your flashing barrels out for personal attention. Stand atop a green and pleasant hillock with your black silhouette carved out proudly against the bright sky behind and a similar bloody end will ensue. The Soviet troops are smart, so the sooner you learn tricks such as flanking and lying low, the better.
Thanks Blue's News.

New SoF2 screens [2:17:53 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
My buddy AndOne from Coldwar Flashpoint let me know that pc.ign has posted 3 new screenshots of Raven Software's military shooter, Solder of Fortune 2.

MoH release date [20:43:41 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
VE posted a small news bit stating that Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is indeed still on track for a Fall 2001 release. Here's the rip:
I contacted 2015 president Tom Kudirka about the rumored delays for Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and he says that it was news to him that the game was going to be delayed until next year. So, barring a natural disaster or something, the game should be good to go later this year. If you missed that wicked gameplay movie from the other day, you can check it out at the official site. In addition, EA's pr stud Steve Groll sends word that as far as he knows, It's still on for a October/November release.
Good news indeed. The video def rocked. Hope gameplay is just as solid..

Myth2: Green Berets interview [18:34:34 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Blue's pointed me in the direction of an interview with Tim Beggs, the producer of Myth2: Green Berets.

Myth2: Green Berets interview

Here's something to get ya going:
Dragon: Can your mission objectives change part way through a scenario?

Beggs: While surprises can happen and the enemy can come from where you least expect, your objectives generally stay the same. I can say, however that there is at least one circumstance where an uncompleted objective spills over into the next mission.
Good stuff; check out the rest..

OFP chat transcript [4:57:05 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Operation Flashpoint Network has posted a transcript of the OFP chat held yesterday at GameSpy Arcade with 2 reps from Codemasters. Here's some of the juice:
Q: Will there be a snowy island or snow in the winter?
A: sorry no but we are constantly looking at ideas to continue to support the game

Q: will there eventually be dedicated servers?
A: yes there will it is being dev for the US release and will be a free upgrade for the EU

Q: Can u fix that netcode? Because OFP needs a very fast connection like ADSL or CABLE.
A: BIS are working on the net code as part of the dedicated server
More great stuff in there, so def check it out..

OFP review [4:28:47 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Fragtopia has posted a pretty in-depth Operation Flashpoint review for your reading pleasure, chock full of great screenshots to go along with the article. Here's how they conclude:
Well, it's worth playing. I'd say it's the best squad based military shooter since the first Delta Force, and is certainly the prettiest. The story is good, voice acting is decent, music is excellent, the action is intense if sometimes frustrating, and over all, it's one hell of a lot of fun. This so far is the finest example of the military squad based shooter I've seen to date.
Thanks VE.

Codename Outbreak interview [21:51:38 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC Shooter has posted an interview with GSC Gameworld's Sergey Zabaryansky, where they chat a bit about Codename: Outbreak (previously titled Venom).

Codename: Outbreak interview

Here's a bit to get ya going:
(PCShooter.com) How much of a realism factor are you aiming for with Venom?

Yes, the game was originally created with a slant to realism. This approach got reflected through many aspects, such as hit system, artificial intelligence, graphics etc. For instance, realism in AI is when your enemies can surround, call for backup, hide, arrange ambushes. And at the same time they are not without faults – the accuracy of their fire is not absolute.
Lot's of new screenshots are included (new to me at least.) Don't miss it..

Major server gremlins [18:29:39 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Dunno what was up with the server today, but it just kept stopping the web services all by itself, even after I manually started them. Kinda hard to serve web pages when the web service is stopped! There were a few hard lockups too.

As near as I can tell, the Indexing Service was causing the problem (over 12,000 documents!) After tweaking some setings, and babysitting the indexing service till it finished, everything seems OK now. Temporarily, the FTP server will be offline till I make sure everything is indeed ship-shape. (What?! There's a SpecForce FTP server too? LOL!)

Ahh, the trials of a self-hosted webmaster..

Global Ops news [10:02:39 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
There are two new articles on Barking Dog's game in progress, Global Operations from around the net.

First up is a preview of the game up at GameSpy.

Global Ops review

Here's a clip on the weapons modeling:
While the weapons were handled by the experts for the most part, Barking Dog took the opportunity to capture audio and visual source data for the game (between occasional firing of handguns). "The weapons are really the characters in our game. We put a lot more polygons in our weapons than other parts of the game, ensuring they have all the right moving parts and animate accurately, continues Mair.
Next up is a Q & A with associate producer Chris Scaglione over at PC Shooter. Here's a snip:
PCShooter: How does your game differ from similar titles already on the market like Counter Strike, Rainbow Six and other combat games? Will we see something new in this game?

Chris: We wanted a game that was realistic, but had fast paced action. The realism comes from the maps, weapons, character models, and specialties. Each map will actually make you think you're in that particular location, using a real Dragunov sniper rifle, dressed like a real sniper. Teamwork is key in Global Operations, but we didn't want to be too much like a simulation game.
Thanks Blue's News.

OFP review [17:48:22 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I missed this over the weekend as well, but Axle Online has posted a review of Codemaster's Operation Flashpoint where it scores a solid 94%. Keep in mind this is a fansite review.

OFP review

Here's a clip from the conclusion:
Overall Operation Flashpoint was well worth the 3+ years of research, development and waiting, a great game has been produced, and great things are going to come from it, from mods, to missions, Operation Flashpoint rid[e]s high, it leaps out of the common games on the market, and makes you take notice, if you love your war games, and even if you don't, then this is a game not to miss.
They could have done some spell-checking tho..

Missed this over the weekend, but there is an interview with Allied Assault's Associate Producer, Stephen Townsend up at the EA website. Here's a clip on the missions you'll be facing:

Q: Do the missions involve stealth tactics, all-out assaults, or a combination of both?

ST: Medal of Honor Allied Assault runs the gamut of disguise levels that involve stealth, missions where the player needs to cooperate with a squad to achieve its goals, sniper duels in an occupied French town, and all-out combat on a grand scale between the Allies and the Germans. It's everything in the previous games and a lot, lot more.
Lots of other great info in there too; check it out..

SoF 2 preview [14:36:10 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Computer Games Online has posted a preview of Raven's upcoming game, Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix.

SoF2 preview

Here's a clip for us tactical fans:
SoF2 will feature some new tactical options as well. You will now be able to effectively hide from enemy patrols, crawl around, and use silenced weapons to greater effect. Tools like lock picks and wire cutters will help you to open doors and shut down the power to certain areas. It is important to note, though, that stealth will always be an option. There will be advantages to it—alerting fewer enemies, expending fewer resources—but the running and gunning style from the original game will still be there for anyone who likes to go in guns blazing.
Seems like its got all the bases covered, no matter what your gameplay style is..

Another OFP review [10:43:02 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Blue's News clued me in to another Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis review, this time over at Computer and Video Games, where it scores a solid 5 out of 5 stars. Here's a clip:
In capturing the fear and danger of war on such an epic scale, Flashpoint deserves to be acclaimed as one of the finest PC games ever created. When you play this game, you feel like a soldier. Sometimes it's rewarding, but most of the time it's just plain terrifying. The bugs are a problem, but you can't help but feel in awe of what's been achieved here.
Pretty high praise indeed.. Check out the rest!

H&D2 Q&A [21:04:55 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Whilst browsing the unofficial H&D2 site, I saw that the unofficial H&D site (confused yet?) has posted an interview with Illusion Softworks' Peter Kubek, who is the lead artist of H&D2. Here's a sample Q&A:
Q - Is the view distance set further than in H&D ?

A - The LS3D is a powerfull tool so we can afford greater view distances than in H&D1. For example in H&D1 was maximal used distance 250m but in H&D2 we have view distances over 500 m. We have also missions with lower view distances - 40 -50 m but it mostly depends on weather conditions.
Nice stuff in there, be sure to check out the rest.

OFP review [17:00:04 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
MPOG has put up a review of BI Studio's and Codemaster's Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis where it scores 3.5 stars. Here's a clip on the realism:
Another realistic dimension to Op Flash is that you can be injured if driving or a passenger in a vehicle if another vehicle crashes into your own. Also, the A.I. in Op Flash is very well done. This is the one aspect where Op Flash is superior to Rainbow Six-Rogue Spear. If you shoot an enemy soldier, hit or miss, his squad mates will usually react in a realistic manner. They'll hit the ground, looking all around for the threat, or take off running for cover. If they see you, they will shoot you, and they are uncanny marksmen.
Thanks Blue's News.

Vietnam: Black Ops2 shots [22:29:16 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (1)
Tracy from Shiny Peanut sent word that Vietnam: Black Ops 2, Special Assignment is now out and available from ValuSoft for only $19.99. Here's what's new:
This game features way more enemies, weapons, nearly twice as many levels, a newer version of the Lithtech engine, and cool voice overs and sound effects. The story ties right in with the first game and we got a pretty talented voice actor to do the main character. The levels are less linear with more secret areas to investigate and you can fight alongside US Soldiers who'll help cover you through certain areas. All in all, it's a damn fun game and a sure winner in the budget range titles.
They also sent 6 screenshots to check out. Click the picture to see them.

OFP at EB early? [3:53:10 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
My mole at Electronics Boutique sent word that Bohemia Interactive's and Codemasters' Operation Flashpoint: Coldwar Crisis may be arriving in U.S. stores even earlier than the previously-thought date of July 16th. It may be in stores as early as Monday or Tuesday. Stay tuned..

[Update]: I've been getting email from people that pre-ordered the game saying their order has been shipped, so it really looks like the game should be here this week! Finally!

To kick off their site redesign, the official Global Ops site has posted some new screenshots, a link to a movie over at GameSpot which is a video interview with Chris Mair from Barking Dog Studios, and even a screensaver.

Plus, more screenshots can be found at GlobalOps Command. Thanks Andy B.

UbiSoft Release Dates [12:36:58 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys from Tactical Games sent word that they've posted the release dates of all of UbiSoft's Redstorm titles in production. The text is in Dutch, but you can read the dates at least.

Venom name change [11:09:34 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Also from Blue's is news that the tactical first-person shooter formerly known as Venom has had its name changed to Codename: Outbreak, and will be published by Virgin Interactive outside Eastern Europe, and is due for a September 2001 release. Here's a clip from the PR:
Missions need to be tackled in number of ways – guard routines need to be studied and surveillance disabled before a successful strike is launched. The buddy system allows players to specify timed attacks so sentries can be taken out simultaneously. Co-ordination between the two team-mates is vital, and players can directly switch between soldiers as they wish. Alternatively, commands can be issued to fellow soldiers with key strokes, leaving players able to concentrate on their own actions.
Hmm, another game named Codename: something... Check out the full press release for more.

H&D2 interview [17:38:41 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
PC Zone has posted a nice little Hidden & Dangerous 2 preview for your reading enjoyment, and enjoy it you will if you have any sense of humor.

HD2 preview

Here's a snip on the new squad functions:
In the sequel we can expect true squad tactics, where you control one character and your computer-controlled apes do what you tell them to do - quickly. No fiddly 3D map, no confusing interface.

'The main difference now is that you can issue orders from the tactical map which are processed in real time,' says Tomas. 'If something goes wrong, you can change things very quickly and easily.'
Def give this one a read.. And did he say it'll be released 4 months after Christmas? That makes April 2002 folks.. It'll be worth the wait tho..

More OFP news [16:59:27 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
There've been a few Operation Flashpoint news items to pop up during my downtime, so I'll just highlight them in one batch:
bullet OFP review at GamesXtreme (a whopping 98%)
bulletOFP review at GameOn (a very solid 91%)
bullet OFP interview with Codemasters' Richard Blenkinsop, producer

Gotta admit, OFP has been getting some stellar reviews.. Can't wait till the game hits U.S. shores (officially) .. Thanks to Andy B for the pointers.

We're back! [16:40:41 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Yay! We're back!

Sorry for the downtime, but as they say, it was due to circumstances beyond my control. A power glitch took out the router, so after smacking it with a big hammer, here we are. It also didn't help that no one was in on July 4th..

Let's get to the news...

Renegade stuff [4:29:51 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Blue's pointed me in the direction of two news articles on Westwood's C&C: Renegade.

First up, TFH Gaming has posted an interview with executive producer Dan Cermak. Here's a little taste:
TFH Gaming: What does this game offer that other 1st person shooters (such as Tribes 2 and Operation Flashpoint) don't?

Dan Cermak: Many things set Renegade apart from the other FPS games out there, and the ones scheduled to come out in the near future. Primarily, it's the deep, rich Command & Conquer universe and the unique tactical situations that this universe allows. It's also a sense that you're part of a meaningful epic war.
Heh, I hope those guys have played OFP...

Next up, PC Gameplay has posted a small preview of the game. Here's a clip on the intense action:
And if nothing else there's plenty going on - in the first minute of play we found ourselves in the midst of a GDI assault on a Nod-held base. As rockets, shells and bullets zip past, tanks lumber by and helicopter gunships soar overhead, it really does feel like you're slap-bang in the middle of a battle-torn warzone.

SpecForceiversary [4:03:46 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Just thought I'd mention to those of you keeping score at home that SpecForce turned 2 years old on Monday, July 2nd! It's been a fun two years, and I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.

As a side note, I know I may have missed some news over the past few days, but I've been busy on a side project that I'll announce shortly. Nothing earth-shattering, but some of you may get a kick out of it when the time comes. Stay tuned as always..

MoH Q&A [1:19:22 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Allied Assault.com has posted a Q & A, based on forum posts by various 2015 members. Here's a clip on the game terrain:
Question: Does anyone know if the ground is going to be "pointy" like is most other first person shooters? I am yet to see (excluding the deltaforce games) a first person shooter that has rolling hills if you get what I mean. I know the quake 3 engine is capable of doing curves but can this be adapted for the ground?

Coriolis: Our ground looks really swell; in most places it is not noticeably pointy.

elmagoo: We've created our own terrain system (check out the new article with our Director of Development - Vince where he talks about this a bit). It's not Q3 TA terrain either. But not having the ground pointy is more of a balance between esthetic choices by the LDs, and technology limitations on how we can manipulate the terrain. We try to keep it as smooth as we can to avoid the jaggies.
Yep, DF3 did have pretty smooth terrain, (but that's about it.. )

SoF II website [0:23:48 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Raven has put up the official Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix website. There's not much new info, just a small into and a features section. Here's a snip from the into:
Full frontal assaults, stealth and subterfuge are your tactics. Sub-machine guns, assault rifles and grenades are your tools. The world is on the brink of disaster. Get ready for one of the most realistic military shooter gameplay experiences ever.
Thanks Blue's..
