Far Cry shots, preview [18:52:43 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Saw a few Far Cry items from around the 'net:

There are some new screenshots over at Gen Gamers (including some night time shots I'd never seen till now.)

There's also a preview over at Fragland. Here's a bit:
The game is divided into 16 different missions in which you control vehicles like a buggy, a chopper, a boat, a hovercraft, ... even a paraglider. A lot of effort was put into the AI of the game, as many developers try to do in FPS games nowadays. Your enemies can either hear you, see you or even know you're there by noticing changes in the environment. None of the AI is scripted which makes the enemies you're facing unpredictable. They also have different moods, some are agressive, others are not.

*Call of Duty demo tweaks [18:00:03 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
If you don't like the recently-released Call of Duty demo running with only a 60 Hz framereate, you can bump it up quite nicely by editing the icon properties and adding +set r_displayrefresh 85 to the command line. Works like a charm.

[Update]: I also found some info on playing the game in 3rd-person mode if that's your thing.

MoH: Breakthrough demo details [19:40:32 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Perhaps trying to steal some of Call of Duty's thunder (or at least, ride their coat tails), EA has released some info on what will be included in the upcoming demo for Medal of Honor: Breakthrough. Here's a snip:
Liberation is a completely new style of Medal of Honor™ multiplayer game play with the goal being to capture the entire opposing team. It is possible to stop them from re-spawning by destroying their Headquarters, but this is a difficult task that can only be accomplished with the coordinated use of artillery and armor.

Each time a player is killed he or she remains in a POW jail until freed by teammates. Teamwork is essential, as multiple tasks are required to open the jail. Want to be the hero? The last free soldier can free the whole squad and still win the game.
Sounds pretty interesting. Last word I heard, the demo will hit "the first or second week in September".. Stay tuned..

*Call of Duty Demo today [2:33:12 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
After a large hue & cry from the internet gaming community, Activision has decided to make the previously FilePlanet exclusive demo of Call of Duty widely available everywhere, not just on FP, and have decided to release it sometime on Friday, instead of Sunday as was originally planned. I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

[Update]: Ok, it's out and clocks in at 175 MB. Check Blue's News for the full list of mirrors.

Shadow Ops previews [3:51:15 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Saw a few new Shadow Ops: Red Mercury previews from around the net.

The first is up at GameSpot. Here's a snip to get ya going:
You can carry up to four different weapons at a time, and since Zombie Studios has considerable experience with military-themed shooters, you can expect to see plenty of real-world weapons (or reasonable facsimiles) in the game, such as AK-47s and M-16s. However, the developer wants to make the game as accessible as possible, so using these weapons should be a breeze for most players--automatic weapons barely have any barrel climb at all when firing continuously, and on the game's easiest difficulty level, it will even have basic aiming-assistance that will let you hit any target within your circular targeting reticule, similar to the shotgun in Halo for the Xbox.
Another preview is up at GameSpy, where they had this to say:
As is the trend for most counter-terrorist-themed shooters, Shadow Ops will contain a bit of globetrotting, as your squad will chase the terrorists through locations like the Congo, Syria, Kazakhstan and Chechnya. We spent most of our time looking at areas of one of the Syria levels, which was covered in sandy orange textures, giving it a Counter-Strike "Dust"-type feel, especially with our character toting an AK-47.
The PC version of this game should ship about a month after the XBox version, sometime in Summer 2004.

Call of Duty preview [3:16:29 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The little green men at GameSpy have posted a preview of Infinity Ward & Activision's upcoming WWII shooter, Call of Duty.

    Call of Duty preview

    Here's a snip:
Although large-scale battles are a theme we've seen running throughout our time with Call of Duty, interacting with your squadmates is being kept relatively simple. You won't be able to issue orders such as "follow me" or "attack there"; instead, Infinity Ward are doing everything they can to make your teammates intelligent so you won't have to lead them around by the nose. Should a friendly jump into your line of fire or occupy a stationary turret you'd like to use, simply click on the teammate and they'll get out of your way.
Def looking forward to this one...

Full Spectrum Warrior [XB] shots [3:09:08 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
ToTheGame has posted a whole slew of shots from Pandemic Studio's upcoming military tactical shooter, Full Spectrum Warrior.

    Full Spectrum Warrior shots

Here's how they describe the game:
Full Spectrum Warrior is based on a light infantry-training simulator designed by Pandemic Studios for the U.S. Army as a tool to reinforce Army doctrine and squad tactics amongst troops. Full Spectrum Warrior is a squad-based, tactical-action game that delivers the experience of squad level command in the heat of battle.
A PC version is also planned.

MoH: Breakthrough demo soon [20:12:59 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The guys at PlanetMedalofHonor (guess their URL icon_razz.gif) have posted word that the demo for Medal of Honor: Breakthrough will be arriving "the first or second week in September", will include multiplayer, and will feature maps and weapons from the Italian campaign. Should be fun when it gets here. For the latest batch of screenshots, click here.

Freedom Fighters Demo [18:39:53 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (1)
Tipped off by my newsie CorporalGeo, I downloaded the Freedom Fighters demo, which clocks in at a very reasonable 76 MB (mirror at 3D Gamers), and gotta admit, it's a pretty nice little game. It's a 3rd-person squad-based tactical shooter from developer IO Interactive, the makers of the Hitman series. A good preview of the game is up at GameSpot along with some nice screenshots.

There are a few niggles with the demo tho.. The camera angles get a bit wacky sometimes, but it's not too bad once ya get a feel for it. Aiming could use some work too, but it's not too bad. The demo doesn't allow you to reconfigure your keys oddly, and the worst part is there is no in-game save. icon_frown.gif But the grpahics and mission design are really nice. If the retail version allows you to reconfig your keys, and has in-game saves, I'll def be picking this one up.. If you're a fan of this site, def check out the demo... If you've already tried it, post your comments...

Far Cry preview [22:02:20 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
HomeLAN Fed has put up a preview of Crytek & UbiSoft's upcoming military shooter, Far Cry. Here's a clip on the game's highly-touted AI:
At one point, your player character is on a tropical island beach as he approaches a group of heavily armed mercs. As you approach the group and begin firing at them, you immediately notice that these are not going to be your typical “charge at you” enemies. All of your foes seem to work together, hiding behind rocks and palm trees, moving to out-flank your position and even retreating if they see they are losing the fight. It’s indeed some of the most advanced AI we have ever seen in a single player game.

    H&D 2 preview [21:46:15 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The folks at BoomTown have posted a preview of Illusion Softworks' Hidden & Dangerous 2, based on some hands-on playtesting. Here's an excerpt (as my buddy Geo likes to say):
Looking across an impressively realistic bank of sand dunes, across to a huge stone fortress I was encouraged to take just one of my men (ironically a Pte. Jenkins) and have a go at sniping the few soldiers that could be seen from our slightly elevated position. Taking out the guard atop a minaret with a satisfying head shot I watched impressed as the base suddenly flared into life and various guards started running to the ramparts and firing in my general direction. Taking them out didn’t prove too much trouble though and I quickly instructed the rest of my men to follow me as we ran down to try and enter the fort through a side door.
    Great stuff! Thanks Blue's News.

Call of Duty impressions [4:26:06 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
The folks over at HomeLAN have posted some Call of Duty impressions based on scoping this baby out at this year's QuakeCon. Here's a clip:
The game has some highly detailed character models for the soldiers and the AI is extremely impressive; friendly soldiers act like real team members and enemy soldiers are constantly trying to out-flank, duck and move in order to avoid being shot. Graphically, the game looks very sharp indeed; the renderer can handle outdoor terrain very well, as evidenced by the British campaign while we tried to escape from the Germans on a highly detailed French country road. The water effects are very impressive as well.

MoH Paciffic Assault info/shots [15:26:13 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Today is turning out to be 'shot day', and as such, Computer and Video Games has posted a small preview of the recently-announced Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, and 3 very cool screenshots to go along with it.

    MoH: PA info and shots

    Here's some info:
A new Medal of Honor game for PC means introduction to a new main protagonist, and this time around we'll be filling the shoes of Marine recruit Tom Conlin.

Caught up in the Japanese airborne attack on Pearl Harbour, Conlin also leads the assault on Guadalcanal and finally is involved in the climactic battle at Tarawa. In other words, you'll be giving the Japanese Army a good kicking.
Def looking and sounding sweet. The jungle environments do look pretty nice. The release is set for Winter 2004.

    H&D 2 screens! [14:51:45 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (2)
Boomtown.net has posted some screenshots of Take 2 and Illusion Softworks' Hidden & Dangerous 2, and they're looking quite nice! Some clippage:
Through more than 20 missions that span the desolate winter of the Arctic to the searing heat of the Libyan desert, Hidden & Dangerous 2 will immerse players in both single and multi-player missions as they battle the armed forces of Hitler, Mussolini and the Japanese Empire.
Def check those puppies out. The game is slated for an October 2003 release.

[Update]: Higher res versions are up at ToTheGame.

Joint Operations preview [9:58:50 EDT] by ~~ CorporalGeo   Comments (0)
Gamespy has a preview of NovaLogic's Joint Operations. An excerpt:
There doesn't seem to be a shortage of vehicles in the game, either. According to producer Joel Taubel, it looks like there will be somewhere between 15 and 20 vehicles in all, covering land, air and sea, and while most of the vehicles are at least based on real-world machines, some liberties have been taken in the name of good gameplay. On the ground, there's a Humvee that seats 5 with a protected turret on top, and a 6-wheel ATV that can hold three people, acting as a solid recon vehicle. There are also a few fast-attack vehicles ("FAVs"), which are essentially buggies that can speed across lands in a hurry, similar to ones seen in the movie Three Kings. Rounding out the ground vehicles we saw: a 5-ton truck with slots for 8 players, but in practice holds as many teammates as you can cram in.

Conflict Desert Storm 2 demo [15:10:12 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (2)
Out of now where (sorta) comes news that SCi has released the demo of Pivotal Games' Conflict: Desert Storm 2. The demo clocks in at 216 MB (yowsa), and allows you to play one mission as either a member of the British SAS or the US Delta Force team.

Mirrors are up at: 3D Gamers, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, Loadedinc (registration required), and Tiscali Games (thanks Blue's News.)

I really hope they got the keyboard/mouse aiming issue fixed for this release!!

LOS: Vietnam review [14:59:37 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I saw via Blue's News that FragLand has posted a review of n-Fusion Interactive's Line of Sight: Vietnam, where it scores a highly precise 73.7% overall.

This is a rather poor review with many typos, and the reviewer seems to have a bit of an attitude for some strange reason..

MoH: Pacific Assault announced [8:51:11 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
ToTheGame has word that EA has announced that Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault is now coming to the PC.

    Here's some clippage:
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault gives players a sense of the courage it took to fight the Imperial Japanese Army from the shock of Pearl Harbor to triumph on the shores of the Tarawa Atoll. Set in the Pacific Theatre of Operations from 1941–1944, players will assume the role of Marine recruit Tom Conlin as he survives the attack on Pearl Harbor, leads the assault on Guadalcanal, and finally charges up the beaches for the climatic battle at Tarawa. Armed with their wits and a variety of authentic weapons, it’s up to players to stop the Japanese war machine in its tracks.
The game is slated for a Winter 2004 release. ToTheGame also has some screenshots to check out as well. (But if you're in the mood for some Pacific WWII action right now, def check out n-Fusion Interactive's Deadly Dozen 2: Pacific Theater.)
