Always a pleaser, GameSpy has posted a preview of that demo's-been-played-to-the-max title, Call of Duty. Have you tried out the mods at CoDFiles.com, yet? The "A.I. Uses Grenades" mod is a keeper! It makes room-clearing very tricky, indeed! |

*Far cry 'views
[17:43:36 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
There are 2 more Far Cry news items from around the 'net. First up is another interview with Crytek's CEO Cevat Yerli. Here's a snip: It's getting to the stage were the game needs no introduction, but could you tell us about what makes the game so special, and briefly, what the story is?Next up is a preview from the folks at Games Radar. The obligatory snip: The third route into the jungle is the stealthiest and involves approaching from the eastern estuary, again avoiding the popular South Beach and entering the interior from a high overgrown gully that provides perfect cover for a sneak attack. And you'll have to attack eventually, because all three arteries into the island heart bottleneck at the stone stairway that provides a curving spine for this supine island beauty, winding right up past impressive (abandoned) twin gun batteries to the proud concrete of her overbearing comms centre. Sneaking is aided by the HUD radar and a stealth bar, which combines your visual and audio profile, as detected by the enemy around you.Good stuff; def looking forward to this one. [Update]: Three new shots can be found here. Related News

The folks at Gamers Hell have posted an interview with CryTek's CEO and Technical Director Cevat Yerli where they discuss Far Cry. Here's a snip on the game's AI: You say the AI is advanced: what are some of the abilities of the AI? For example, do they take cover when being fired at, or do they just keeping running at you like an iron zombie, and, is the difficulty of the AI determined by the difficulty level you select, if any difficulty settings are available?Related News |

Battlefiled: Vietnam preview
[2:58:11 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
Action Trip is the latest site to post a preview of DICE's next game, Battlefield: Vietnam. Here's a sniperoo: The workhorse for the U.S. during the Vietnam conflict was the helicopter and it will serve the same purpose in Battlefield Vietnam. [...] As it was the case in actual combat, players will be able to mount the side miniguns and lay down suppressive fire as the infantry troops are being taken away from the field. Up to three people can fit in the Huey (that is if we're not counting the pilot). Besides being able to mount miniguns, players can fire from their M16's out the open bay door. Passengers in other vehicles like jeeps will also have the ability to fire weapons while moving, which should make the gameplay even more interesting.Related News

MoH: Pacific Assault preview
[22:14:49 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
The guys at ActionTrip have posted a preview of EALA's Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. Here's some snippage: The new engine, which is created especially for Pacific Assault, clearly allows for some splendid new features and graphics that surpass those we've seen in Allied Assault. From what we've heard the engine's flexibility will allow for numerous innovative effects, such as grass bending after grenade explosions, advanced water and particle effects evident when you shoot a few rounds into the water, high-res textures and more. In addition to offering a great deal of improvements in the graphics, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault aims to take full advantage of the Havok physics engine. Still, as the developers revealed, the advantage of powerful technology won't get in the way of the game design.Related News

Rushian
The guys at Gamer's Hell have posted a review of EA & Digital Illusion's Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII expansion, and scored it with a 91% overall. Here's a snip: The most important aspect of this expansion, is the game's ability to deliver an amazing multiplayer game that gets you entrenched deep into enemy territory. Secret Weapons, delivers just what everyone needed by still providing the all important multiplayer mode, but with a new twist. With the addition of Secret Weapons, players now have the ability to play maps where certain objectives must be met before the map can be won.[Update]: Another review can be found at Action Trip where it also scores 91%. Freedom Fighters review
[19:52:21 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
The guys at EuroGamer have posted a review of EA & IO Interactive's recently-gold squad shooter, Freedom Fighters, where is scores a 70% overall. Here's some of the juice: As Chris' charisma and reputation improve, he's given more and more NPC slots in the top left of the HUD, and by walking up to a fighter and pressing E, Chris can easily recruit his services. From here, he can direct fighters to attack a target (by pointing at it and pressing 2), defend the current position (3) or regroup on him (1), and these chaps are not afraid of getting their hands dirty. In contrast to what you might usually expect from NPC AI, they seek cover and vantage points intelligently, fire on enemies making use of any handy machine gun nests, and follow you without ever snagging on some unexpected piece of scenery. And yip -- the game has checkpoint saves at least! Yet another Call of Duty preview
[19:09:41 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
There's yet another Call of Duty preview up, this time over at Boomtown. Here's some clippage: The game also sports extensive background animations, which increase the feeling that players are just a tiny part of the battle. If you’ve tried the demo, you’ll probably have noticed parachute troops gliding down, illuminated by artillery fire in the night sky. But it gets better. After you’ve scaled part of the hill that leads into the ruins of Stalingrad one of the officers calls for artillery support and then the horizon in the Russian-controlled part of Volga lights up. Then you’ll see grenades passing overhead and wreaking havoc on the entire city.Related News |

R6: Athena Sword preview
[8:43:08 EDT] by

Those sneaky guys at GameSpy have posted a preview of UbiSoft's R6: Athena Sword along with some screenshots. Here's how they conclude: Fans of the Rainbow Six series have a lot to look forward to, and Athena Sword should gratify both tactical-shooter and action gamers alike. Team Rainbow expects to bag more tangos in style. When considering the current geo-political turmoil, where terrorist factions are recruiting by the droves, it's heartening that at least one more terrorist outfit is going to get snuffed, even if it's done in virtual reality. Expectations remain high as Athena Sword prepares to insert sometime early fall.Related News

*Full Spectrum Warrior confirmed for PC

Gamespot has confirmed plans for a PC version of the X-Box military squad shooter/simulator Full Spectrum Warrior in a brief article. An excerpt: The developer has already completed work on its initial project, a hard-core military simulation that is already actively being used by the US Army to train its soldiers in field tactics. Full Spectrum Warrior is actually a slightly less-punishing version of the Army's game that will be made available to the public, both on the Xbox, and as we've learned, also on the PC.You can learn more about the game at the official Full Spectrum Warrior site. And if you missed it a while back, Fileplanet has a 505MB E3 movie of the X-Box version in action. [Update]: There's an updated 'first impressions' article over at the PC section of GameSpot too. Call of Duty preview
[6:31:50 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
In more review news, Gaming Nexus has posted a preview of Activision & Infinity Ward's upcoming WWII shooter, Call of Duty. Here's some of the goods: What really makes this game impressive is the sense of scope. Never do you feel like you’re one man who can act alone and sway the war in your favor. Instead, you often find yourself feeling like you’re one man that’s part of a group that has to band together in order to survive. You don’t just want the guys fighting alongside you, you need to have them fighting with you. Running headfirst into the fray will most likely result in your untimely demise. Having a cool head, listening to your commanding officer and working with the team is the only way to keep yourself and your allies alive.Cool indeed! Related News

Freedom Fighters preview
[6:17:09 EDT] by
~~
Rushian
GameSpy has posted a nice little preview on IO Interactive's upcoming 3rd-person squad shooter, Freedom Fighters, after some hands-on time spent with the beta. Here's a snip: Throughout the game, Stone will be able to recruit other guerillas and order them about using a simplified command system. This means you can quickly and easily order one soldier to take out a machinegun nest, and another to guard a choke point, while you're on top of a van using a sniper rifle to pick out stragglers. While the earlier levels are easier and require far fewer commandos, later levels will tax Stone's command skills to the limit, often requiring the coordination of up to twelve different soldiers. The preview mentions MP modes, which I didn't think the PC-port was going to have, so that's good. This one def leans towards the action side of gaming, but I had a lot of fun with the demo (see related items below), so I'll prob be adding FF to my game collection once it's released later this month. Hope it has in-game saves (or checkpoints) tho! Related News |
