Myth 2 by Lickshot 13-August-2001 © SpecForce.net
Sound effects are a bit week for this type of game but the 3D graphics are lovely, especially when they throw in some weather to the mix, and I must mention the excellent explosions. Green Berets is lacking a few features I would like to have seen, like the ability to go prone or to pick up enemy gear. But on the upside, you can call in aerial re-supplies by using a red smoke flare, and the pre-set formations (10 altogether) add some tactical options that would otherwise be sorely missed. The missions are well-thought out, with objectives like destroying a communications tower, rescuing a downed pilot behind enemy lines, and freeing some POWs. Weaponry includes all the typical Vietnam-era equipment you would expect, including M16, M60, and AK-47 rifles, in addition to mortars, grenades, and air strikes. The overall production of Green Berets is of high quality since they are using the venerable Myth II program. Those unfamiliar with the Myth interface will find it takes some practice to get used to. If you're into blood and guts (who isn't) you will enjoy watching the limbs fly when you pop a grenade into a group of VC. Better yet, you can record whole missions and view them at will using the free-roam camera! There are only ten single-player missions, but multiplayer is where Green Berets is going to shine due to the easily accessible multiplayer options. Incidentally, Green Berets includes the complete Myth II program. While not the most realistic tactical title around, the Myth II/Green Berets combo is a great value if you're looking for something new and refreshing in the tactical/RTS field.
