Demo will not work

Several download sites had demo files that got corrupted and do not install properly. Please try another site (see below)

Spec Ops II Demo download sites

or directly from our Spec Ops II page:

Problem: I get gray textures

Solution:
For NVidia (TNT) cards: Grab the latest nVidia drivers (v2.53 or higher) and install them.

For ATI: We are still working on this problem, but we suspect that it is a driver issue. Please check back on both the www.specops2.com and ATI web sites after Nov 8th.

Problem: Install prg doesn't detect my (secondary) video card
Solution: This is 'normal' and usually caused by conflicting registry entries, either due to installing a new video card, or improperly installing the orginal video card.
You can still select either D3D or Voodoo on the next screen and it will install correctly (provided you have a secondary video card (Voodoo) and have installed it correctly).
Problem: Game just spinning, can't control berets.
Solution: Calibrate your joystick/gamepad, even if it currently works in other games (or un-connect it), and make sure trim is is calibrated. Also m ake sure the game controls haven't been remapped.
Problem: 'Bouncy movement' when I run
Solution: Don't run in scope mode. This is not a bug.
Problem: Can't change screen res.
Solution: You can't change the screen resolution in Glide (3dfx voodoo) mode. Under D3D there will be a dialog box that comes up before you enter the game that will allow you to change your screen res. There will be no mouse pointer, but the screen res input line will be already highlighted. Use cursor keys to scroll thru the list to pick your screen res.
Problem: Can't change res in Glide (3DFX Voodoo) mode.
Solution: Demo (and game) is locked at 640x480. We are working on support for Glide ver. 3, which will add suport for higher resolution.
Problem: No mouse invert.
Solution: there is a patch available for both the demo and the full version of the game.
Korea Death Match Level crash.
There is a very small patch available to fix this.
Problem: Movie Text is overlapping
There is a large patch available.

Game Play Hints and Tips

I don't have any enemies, where'd they go?
The game defaults to the settings used in your last game, whether multiplayer or single player. So if you last game was multiplayer, with enemies turned off, your next single player game will not have any enemies (therefore if you complete the mission, you will not get promoted).

In multiplayer I am shooting at someone when they appear, why won't they die?
In multiplayer, when you respawn, you have 4 seconds when you cannot take damage. This limits the effect of "campers" (players who "camp" at respawn locations and shoot players when they are at their weakest). Also, keep in mind that many weapons have a great deal of spread in their bursts, so if you shoot an MP5 at an enemy 90 meters away it is doubtful you will hit them.

How can I get more replay?
Try a different level of difficulty, or turn on the random AI. This will place the enemy AI in different locations. Also, playing all the single player missions with or against friends is a great way to dramatically change the game.

Why is my Green Beret equipped with only a knife?
If you do not properly select a weapon in the loadout screen, you can enter the game with nothing but a knife. This happens most often if you carry too much equipment. The best solution is to load out with your weapon first, then select your equipment.

Why do my Squad member run up to the enemy?
Please keep in mind that when you select a Soldier for your Squad (Infantry, Demolition, etc.) you are assigning an AI personality type to that soldier. The Sniper and the Demolition soldier have stationary attack priorities and will attack from their current location, if possible. The other soldiers will move closer to attack, with the Close Quarters soldier moving very close before firing. As such, the Close Quarters soldier is best used in missions with confined spaces, such as the Ship Hold mission in Germany. (So if yo want your men to not run off to get as close to the enemy as possable to kill them, make sure you choose SNIPERS or DEMOLITIONS men and then load them with the weapons you want them to have.) BUT those men won't do well in close quarters situations)

Can I practice my multiplayer skills?
You can practice your multiplayer skills by logging on the lobby and hosting a multiplayer game with random AI turned on. Then select any level, including the DeathMatch and training levels and you will have enemy AI "bots" on. There will be several different weapons loadouts and personality types, just like a real DeathMatch.

How can I better control my Squad?
Move up works in the direction you are facing, so if give the move up command, and then turn around, your squad will move accordingly, in front of you. If you want them to move up and then keep their Position, give them the "Move Up" (F1) command, then give them the "Hold Up" command (F3).
I use this MOVE UP feature and then get to where I am some what between guys and they defend my position. By turning to the rught or left, the men run around me and nail the hostiles. (You must have sniper men with LR300's or Demolitions men with LR300's for best results.)
