Sniper Elite [PC] [15:18:11 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
EuroGamer has posted word that Sniper Elite will be coming to the PC for a scheduled Q4 2005 release. Here's a snip:
There are 28 levels to work through as you're charged with taking out machine guns, armoured vehicles, guard posts and sentries with precision accuracy. You'll need to take account of everything from gravity and wind speed to posture, breathing and heart rate thanks to "one of the most authentic sniping mechanics ever devised."
There's also mention of co-op MP modes, which is always good. Screenshots can be found at EuroGamer or To The Game.

Vietcong 2 website goes live [19:21:09 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Take 2 has opened up their Vietcong 2 website. Here's the rip from the Overview:
Vietcong 2 is a FPS set against the background of the 1968 Tet Offensive, in and around the ancient city of Hue during the Vietnam War. Brought to life through a gritty story compiled from first hand accounts and memories of Special Forces and Infantry servicemen stationed in Hue during the assault.
A few screenshots are online as well. (Thanks RangerStew for the news.)

Close Combat: First to Fight review [19:46:09 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Computer & Video Games has posted their review of Destineer's squad-shooter, Close Combat: First to Fight and scored it at a fairly low 62% overall. Here's what they thought of it:
While not a universally terrible effort, the tense stand-offs and tight urban combat is let down by the weak interface and poor consistency in your squad's AI. Although lowering the difficulty setting will add a more Republic Commando-style arcade slant to the missions and lower your reliance on your squad, this pretty much defeats the object of buying what's purported to be a squad-based strategic shooter in the first place.
I dunno, I liked it.. It's quite fun working thru the campaign in co-op.

  • Conflict: Global Terror preview [19:36:24 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
Boomtown has taken a look at Pivital Games' upcoming squad shooter, Conflict: Global Terror, fourth in their Conflict series of games, having done tours in the deserts of the Middle East and the Jungles of Vietnam previously. Here's a bit of what's new:
The levels should be a lot less linear than previously. The number and placing of enemies will be different whenever you replay a mission and freedom of movement through an area is greater. The theme of the game will have you fighting all over the world, which ensures variety. Anything from forrests through ruined cities to huge factories will be there.
They also promise "easier controls, better squad interface" which is good news as well.

Army Rangers: Mogadishu [19:58:40 EDT] by ~~ Rushian   Comments (0)
I spotted via SimHQ that Groove Games will be publishing Army Rangers: Mogadishu, a budget squad-shooter from Jarhead Games.

    Worthplaying has the goods:
Players take the role of the commander of a squad of Army Rangers, giving the soldiers orders to Go, Cease Fire, Hold Position and Engage. Game mission maps with waypoints help players complete the game objectives through the 10 single player missions. Gamers use authentic military vehicles, including HMMVVS and Blackhawks, and equip themselves with various combat weapons, including knives, M16s and M103 grenade launchers to complete mission objectives.
The game is set to ship June 14th for 20 bucks.
